Honeysuckle Lil landed the latest win for Alfred Nobel in the Stonbury Studs Maiden Stakes (1200m) at Newcastle on Friday.

The Tim Easterby trained filly raced mid-division before making headway at the half-way point.  She ran on well for a two-length victory over Flicka’s Boy (Paco Boy).

Honeysuckle Lil (2f Alfred Nobel – Twinberry by Tagula) firmed from 16-1 into 12-1 despite unplaced runs at his first two starts at York and Ripon.

Alfred Nobel (Danehill Dancer) has sired five first-crop winners in Europe this year.  He began shuttling from Coolmore Stud’s Irish base to Lynward Park in 2011 but didn’t fly to Western Australia this year.

His latest winner is trained by Tim Easterby at Habton Grange Stables in North Yorkshire for owner Ambrose Turnbull.  The colt is a late April foal and made 7,000 euros (AUD 10,120) at the Goffs Sportman’s yearling sale in October 2013.

Honeysuckle Lil is a younger half-brother to winners by Namid and Moss Vale.  Their dam Twinberry has another yearling colt by Alfred Nobel that sold as a foal at Goffs last year for 6,000 euros (8,675).
