Mungrup Stud’s memorable Magic Millions double at Ascot on Saturday has spotlighted its massive draft of yearlings being auctioned this week.

Sunspeed’s leading nursery bred feature winners Red Ora (MM 3YO Trophy) and Lucky Street (MM 2YO Classic) while, nearby at Belmont, Mungrup staff were caring for 50 yearlings set for sale at the Magic Millions this week.

RED ORA (Due Sasso) is unbeaten in five starts since a debut victory at Ascot on December 27.  He has earned $235,900 (including Westspeed bonuses totalling $80,000) for Mungrup owner Gray Williamson and syndicate of his  old school mates from Aquinas College.

“You probably heard all them!” trainer Dan Morton amid euphoric scenes at Ascot.  “It’s fantastic and cheering this horse home is a fabulous excuse for them to stay in contact.”

Red Ora won by three-quarters of a length from Fire Born (Oratorio) to fill out a Mungrup quinella in the 3YO Trophy.  Last year’s G2 WA Guineas winner Rommel (Commands) finished third.

Williamson races Red Ora with Damien Cooper, Michael O’Brien, Michael, Henriks, Mark Abercromby and Peter Price Red Ora.  He’s the final foal of Friartriar and is from the immediate family of Group 1 winners Scenic Blast and Gilded Venom.

LUCKY STREET (Oratorio) was a class above his rivals winning the 2YO Classic as a heavily-supported $2.60 favourite.  He was in a comfort zone at the finish to score by more than two lengths from Light Up The Sky (Big Brown) and Dickey (Alfred Nobel).

“He appeared a little flat footed early and then over-raced,” trainer Trevor Andrews said.  “Paul (Harvey) drove him through and got a good position.  It was a great ride.”

Lucky Street gave Oratorio (Aus) his second Magic Millions 2YO Classic in a row after Cadenza in 2014.  He also sired Gold Busker to win the Tasmanian Magic Millions Classic last Thursday.

“What a sensational day,” Mungrup’s Ann Croucher said.  “The Red Ora group were ecstatic and Lucky Street made it three Magic Millions features in four days!”

Oratorio got Lucky Street from Rumours (Umatilla) who was 17 when she foaled the Magic Millions winner.  Oratorio has 20 yearlings entered for the Perth Magic Millions on Tuesday and Wednesday.
