Promising Danehill Express rig Halo Express has returned from a classic campaign to maintain his perfect second-up record in the TAB Touch Home Of Racing Hcp (1400m) at Belmont.

The Grant Williams trained galloper stretched out to 2400m when unplaced in the G2 WATC Derby in April but he won’t be tested past a mile this prep.  “He will be better suited over 1400m and 1600m,” Williams explained after a one-length victory on Saturday.  “He looked a good thing on paper today with the good barrier and blinkers.”

Halo Express (4r Danehill Express – Bolasque by Don’t Say Halo) races for a syndicate that includes the trainer’s wife Alana along with Elio & Jacque Galante, Robert Tomlinson, Bruce Greenwood, Robert Moralee, Davin Elzas, Phil Eaton, Peter Richards and Clint Hunter.

Williams bought him for $6,000 as a foal at a Perth Magic Millions Sale in 2012.  “The owners have been very loyal to the stable.  They’ve been with me since our days at the trots.”

Halo Express is related to Group 1 winning miler Chanteclair and is unbeaten second-up.  “He hit the line hard first up and that blew the cobwebs away.  We’ve given him time because he had plenty of growing to do last year.”

Mungrup Stud sire Danehill Express made it a winning double on Saturday with The Director in the Book An Exhibition Hcp (1600m).  He got a run from first emergency and swooped down the outside to score by a long-head.

The Director (5g Danehill Express – About Carla by Serheed) missed a run at last week’s postponed Belmont meeting and was nominated to defeat a tougher field on Saturday.  “He’s been very consistent and deserved that win,” trainer Trevor Andrews said.  “He’s been a late maturing horse and we had to be patient early on.”

Danehill Express (Danehill) stands for a service fee of $4,400 (inc gst) at Mungrup Stud.
