Oratorio (Aus) sprinter Tre Amici has pulled off a well-planned win for the owner – trainer team of Des De Largie and David Harrison at Belmont.

“We decided to go forward and soften up the favourite (Bache) in front,” Harrison said after the Perth Racing Twitter Hcp (1000m) on Wednesday.  “We also added winkers and that switched him on,”

Tre Amici (5g Oratorio – Laventour by Metal Storm) pressured Bache and they cleared out from the rest of the field approaching the corner.  The cut-throat tactics worked when Pat Carberry found another kick in the straight to score by more than a length.

Festive Express flew home without ever threatening the winner while the $2.80 favourite wilted in the straight to finish third.

“He has taken a few runs to put it together this prep,” Harrison admitted.  “He didn’t give 100% last time and that’s why we went for the gear change.  He won a couple at Ascot last season and hopefully there’s a few more coming up.”

Laventour has been a wonderful producer for De Largie foaling LR Summer Scorcher winner Latoria (Oratorio) and up-and-coming sprinter Sheidel (Holy Roman Emperor).  The Sunspeed breeder also raced their dam’s half-brother Track Jester (Tenby) to 8 wins including the G3 Asian Beau Stakes.

Oratorio sired a Belmont double on Wednesday – Tre Amici’s fellow five year-old L’Rondine won the Perth Racing Membership Hcp (1400m) for part-owner and trainer Meryl Hayley.

Mungrup Stud stands Oratorio (Stravinsky) for an $11,000 (inc gst) fee.
