Lenience surprises on Super Saturday

Trainer Neville Parnham was confident Lenience would run a forward race first-up on Saturday even though the gelding was a market drifter before the Peace For Paris Hcp (1200m).

Starting a $21 outsider, the Danehill Dancer galloper tracked Onadowntowntrain before surging clear in the closing stages to score by three-quarters of a length.  “He worked with Rommel at Belmont on Tuesday and galloped right up to that form today,” Parnham said.  “He had a perfect run and was very strong on the line.

“He’s had some setbacks but I expect him to keep stepping up this season.  Injuries have interrupted his progress but he’s right back on track now.”

Lenience (5g Danehill Express – Oh Mercy by Marooned) has earned $385,656 including Westspeed bonuses of $110,000 for a syndicate comprising stable stalwarts Colin Loxton, Mike Fagan, Peter Bell and Paul Cooke.

He cost $54,000 when parading as Lot 1 at the 2012 Perth Magic Millions and is the last of five winners from Oh Mercy.  Among them were the stakes performers Mercury Halo (Don’t Say Halo) and Storm on By (Metal Storm).

Danehill Express stands for a $4,400 (inc gst) fee at Mungrup Stud.  He has sired the winners of 30 races this season and is equal second with Snippetson on the WA ladder behind Blackfriars (53).
