Figures released by the Australian Stud Book show Blackfriars was the busiest WA based stallion in 2015.
Blackfriars covered 109 mares at Scenic Lodge and his associates Snippetson (83) and Universal Ruler (67) were also in the State’s Top 10.
The five-time champion son of Danehill was credited with a Group 1 victory in the 1999 Victoria Derby before retiring to Scenic Lodge. His biggest book was 178 mares in 2012.
There’s more black-type ahead for Blackfriars at Ascot this weekend following Black Heart Bart’s Group 3 victory in the Victoria Hcp at Caulfield on Easter Saturday. Rising three year-old Kia Ora Koutou continues his WA Derby campaign in the LR Melvista Stakes and Blackwood is set to peak in the G3 WA Oaks.
