Stable Queen gets the Cash at Bendigo

Conditions were made to order for stable favourite Cash For Diamonds on an otherwise gloomy afternoon at Bendigo on Friday.

The Dash For Cash mare motored home in driving rain to win the Bolton’s Hcp (1600m) by six lengths for trainer John McArdle and jockey Jamie Mott.  “Great to see the stable queen return to the winner’s circle today,” Redgum Racing tweeted.  “She came from last before bolting away from the field.”

Cash For Diamonds doesn’t win out of turn but is always a chance when there’s cut in the ground.  She’s from the penultimate crop that Dash For Cash sired in Victoria before his transfer to Scenic Lodge in WA.

McArdle is also a factor with Dash For Cash having trained his stock to win 18 races.  Cash For Diamonds is known as ‘Dotti’ at this Redgum Racing establishment in Mornington and has contributed 5 of those wins.

She is a homebred for Bairnsdale-based trainer Ken Curtis and is raced in partnership with Paul Conn, Ron Morrison and Barry Walker.  Her dam Missy Diamonds (Rancho Ruler) is a half-sister to Sensational Toy (Toy Pindarri) who won 14 races for Curtis.

There’s an extended WA link to the pedigree going back to 1982 Challenge Stakes winner Medal’s Great.  His sire Just Great (GB) was based in the Hunter Valley prior to a move west where he was used extensively by Roger Waddingham.

Just Great’s best galloper in WA was Fred Castledine’s 1979 Perth Cup winner Meliador.

Dash For Cash has last-start Bunbury maiden winner Great Heist ready to resume following a Lark Hill trial win on Monday.  The 3yo gelding is a homebred for Geoff Durrant and is trained by his son Adam.

Great Heist’s dam Undercover Lizzy (Bletchley Park) was a two-time Belmont winner for the Durrants and her Blackfriars 4yo Deception Game has also saluted twice to date at the winter venue.  The mare has a yearling colt by Dash For Cash and a filly foal by Snippetson.

Dash For Cash stands at Scenic Lodge for a $2,750 service fee with Snippetson and Universal Ruler who are both priced at $6,600.  All fees are GST inclusive with a free return.
