Comfort Me has continued Playing God’s remarkable winning run with a brave victory in the Cool Ridge Plate (1400m) at Belmont.
Rhys Radford’s promising 4yo is the 11th individual winner by the Darling View stallion in the last month. He is also this week’s TBWA Winner Of The Week.
Comfort Me was caught three-wide without cover on Saturday but still found a length at the furlong when asked for another effort by Jade McNaught. He was all out at the finish but held on by a nose to defeat Sheza Chalmer (Vital Equine).
“I thought he held on but I didn’t look at the replay,” Radford said. “He didn’t have any sort of luck but luckily he was good enough. I’ve got an opinion of this horse. He’s done everything right from his first day back and it’s good to see him put it on the board.”
Comfort Me is the final foal of Southern Comfort (Comfy) who won four races at Belmont and descends from LR Perth Quality Stakes winner Wild Touch (Haulpak). He’s a homebred for Frank & May Edwards and they also race recent Pinjarra 2yo winner Twice Lucky (Bradbury’s Luck) with Radford.
Six of Playing God’s last 11 winners have been in town; Divine Pair, Bruce Almighty, Fiery Water, Son Of Bacchus (Ascot) and Nerodio & Comfort Me (Belmont).
His sire Blackfriars ($3.61million) leads the WA ladder from Snippetson ($2.99m) who holds a narrow margin over Playing God ($2.81m) for Active Sire bragging rights.
