A week after receiving $1.3 million for a Zoustar – Lady Cosmology yearling colt at the Gold Coast Magic Millions, Amelia Park owner Peter Walsh has announced his precious Group 1-producing mare Bumbasina will go to public auction later this season.

The Irish-bred dam of star mare Amelia’s Jewel (Siyouni) will be offered at either the Inglis Chairman’s Sale on May 9 or the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale commencing on May 28.

Bumbasina (Canford Cliffs) is only a 10 year-old and has spent the last 18 months in France where she has been covered twice to southern hemisphere-time by Champion French sire Siyouni at Haras de Bonneval.  She has a colt at foot by Siyouni and is back in foal with another full-relation to Amelia’s Jewel.

“She’s on her way back to Australia with the colt and he looks amazing,” Walsh said last month.  “He will be weaned at Segenhoe Stud and will be going to the Gold Coast Magic Millions or Inglis Easter in 2025.”

Walsh purchased Bumbasina (pictured) through agent Louis Le Metayer for 75,000gns (AUD 140,000) at a Tattersalls Bloodstock Sale in 2018.  “She would be worth a bit of money now so when do I cash-in?” the Vasse-based breeder asked ANZ Bloodstock on Friday.

“I will have a reserve on her, and if she doesn’t meet it, I will keep her.  I’ve got her daughter Amelia’s Jewel and she be a broodmare back home eventually.  I think the time is right.”

On the racing front, Walsh has been busy locking in a slot for Amelia’s Jewel in the $5 million The Quokka (1200m) at Ascot on April 20.  It will be her swansong in Perth before leaving Simon Miller’s stable to further her career in the Eastern States.

Bookmakers have opened her a $4.20 favourite to go one better than last year when she went down a nose to seasoned Sydney raider Overpass.  “Simon understands,” Walsh revealed.  “No one wants to lose a horse like that but it’s just too much.  He has a great team in Perth and he has to train them.”

Hoofnote: Bumbasina’s 2yo colt Bosustow (Blue Point) makes his debut in the Australian Whisky Hcp (1100m) at Rosehill on Saturday.
