“It’s been six weeks since her debut run and she’s still big in condition,” Miller revealed. “She wasn’t afforded the best run in transit first-up but she was a different filly today. It’s a month to the Magic Millions Classic and she will keep improving off another start in a fortnight.”
Miller has the record on the board with Classic winners Valour Road (2018) and Darlington Abbey (2012) and Parnham will be looking to emulate his younger brother Chris who won it on Super Smink (2023).
“She did everything I needed,” Parnham said. “She found the fence and won it on the corner when she kicked well clear.”
Madhi Girl (2f Winning Rupert – Very Angry Gal by Gingerbread Man) was bred by Digby Beacham and sold to Teleah Hulse through Western Breeders Alliance (as agent) for $68,000 at last year’s Perth Magic Millions Yearling Sale.
Winning Rupert (Written Tycoon) is based in Queensland and her dam Very Angry Gal was an Ascot 2yo winner for Miller in 2016. She is a half-sister to LR Bolton Sprint (1200m) winner Profit Street (Viscount) from the family of Peters Investments Champion Australian 3YO Filly Delicacy.
Very Angry Gal is now owned by Jorja Gammage who grew up at Scenic Lodge. Her mother Caroline is marketing manager at the Muchea stud and is also a photographer for Western Racepix. “David Smith is my grandfather and Jeremy Smith my uncle,” Jorja said from Nagambie on Sunday. “I’ve always been involved in the breeding and racing industries doing yearling preparations, vet days and everything in between.
“I moved east in 2017 to broaden my knowledge of the industry working at studs like Tyreel and Widden in NSW before becoming stud manager at Dorrington Farm in Victoria which is home to top-class mares like She’s Extreme, Catchy and Sheidel.”
Jorja bought Very Angry Gal at last year’s Inglis Broodmare Sale in Sydney. “Her last two progeny were purchased by a highly reputable trainer (Simon Miller) and owner (Kim Doak) from Western Australia so it was a no-brainer to send her back to the west.
“She has an outstanding Profiteer filly at foot which we will hopefully send to the 2025 Perth Magic Millions Yearling Sale. Very Angry Gal is in foal on a September cover to Universal Ruler and she will be available for unreserved sale at the Scenic Lodge Dispersal next month.”
