Lynward Park manager Troy van Heemst boosted the Bullsbrook stud’s bloodstock portfolio with a momentous $550,000 bid for G2 WA Guineas winner Treasured Star (Toronado) at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale on Thursday evening.

Treasured Star (Lot 48) was offered by Holbrook Thoroughbreds as agent for Peters Investments on a night when turnover reached an unprecedented $35.3 million for 59 top-flight lots at Riverside Stables.

“It’s the top-end of the market and we’re more than happy to buy one of that quality,” van Heemst said.  “She’s a proper mare and fitted all our criteria.  She will begin letting down for stud duty with our friends David and Alison Hush at Davali Thoroughbreds before we decide on a stallion for next season.”

Located at Luskintyre on the Hunter River, Davali is now home to 8 Lynward Park broodmares. Treasured Star joins Real Danger (I Am Invincible), Queen Alina (Mahuta), Baronova (Fiorente), I’m Feeling Lucky (Bletchley Park), Fontainebleau (Alfred Nobel), Twinkle Toes (Danehill) and Bound For Earth (Northern Meteor).

Treasured Star (5m Toronado – Treasured Gift by Big Brown) is from a half-sister to Battle Hero (Stratum) who won seven black-type races in the cerise and white silks topped by Group 3 victories in the 2016 Roma Cup (1200m) and 2018 Northam Sprint (1100m).

Besides the G2 WA Guineas, she also won the Group 3 Asian Beau Stakes (1400m) at Ascot last season.  “I had a chat with Bob and Liam and I guess we’re pushing in the same direction,” van Heemst added.  “They bought a So You Think colt from us for $200,000 at last year’s Perth Magic Millions so it’s reciprocal and all friendly competition.”

Lynward Park also parted with $70,000 for USA-bred mare Plastered (Wilburn) at the Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale on Friday.  A winner of 7 races up to a mile, she was also placed in the LR Santa Lucia Stakes at Santa Anita and was sold with a PPT to Bivouac.

“Plastered will be going to Bondi,” van Heemst revealed.  “We’ve been thrilled with so many Bondi winners recently.  They’re genuine gallopers and we will keep him at $6,600 this season.”

Bondi Bubbles kicked-off the winning run in the RL Magic Millions WA 3YO Trophy and he’s been followed by city winners Krysanova, Bondi’s Future, Icebergs, Riseanfall, Centre Bond, Rocket Juice and Bondi Plunge.
