Former Roselee Park stallion Jimmy Choux (NZ) sired his 6th Stakes winner when Weeraechoux got the better of odds-on favourite Petrouchka in the LR Belmont Classic (2200m) on Saturday.
Chris Parnham sent Weeraechoux past front-runner The Candy Kid (Sessions) into the straight and had another shot left in the locker when Petrouchka (More Than Ready) emerged from a pocket to level up at the 100m pole.
“I thought we were on toast when I looked across and saw the favourite,” Parnham told The West Australian. “But to my horse’s credit, he pulled out too many guns and it was a solid win. He relaxed off a quick tempo and is starting to turn into a nice stayer.”
Weeraechoux (3g Jimmy Choux – Rae’s Rae by Pentire) was coming off a closing second to Cool Memory (Impending) in the LR Aquanita Stakes (2000m) a fortnight ago. That was the race trainer Brian Kersley had targeted at the start of the gelding’s winter prep but he was just as happy to land the Belmont Classic.
“This wasn’t the race I had in mind but I couldn’t have asked for a better result,” Kersley said. “It was a big run in the Aquanita and he probably got to the front too soon today. I’ve always had faith in the horse and he’s putting it all together now.”
Weeraechoux (Photo / Western Racepix) was bred by Roselee Park owner Tracy Rodwell from Rae’s Rae who also foaled Queensland Diesel (Maschino) to win a Northam maiden on Thursday.
She is a half-sister to G3 Port Adelaide Cup winner Voodoo Beat (Sir Tristram) and the dam of G2 MRC Angus Armanasco Stakes winner Savanna Amour (Love Conquers All). Another half-sister Royal Choisir (Proisir) won at Belmont for Vaughn Sigley and Ascot for Indianna Weinert.
Rae’s Rae was regular partner for Jimmy Choux prior to his death in January. Her 2yo is an unraced gelding named Iraychoux and there’s a yearling filly and filly foal by the 2011 NZ Horse of The Year at Roselee Park in Serpentine.
Roselee Park has revamped its roster for 2024 with King’s Troop (Redoute’s Choice) being joined by Super One (I Am Invincible) and NZ-bred Super Easy (Darci Brahma). For bookings or further information call Tracy Rodwell on 0400 011 691.
