Western Breeders Alliance has entered a quality draft for the 2025 Perth Magic Millions Sale amid another successful month for our leading vendor in August.
WBA graduates Zing To Win (Shooting To Win) and Cruise To Victory (Lucky Street) won before the 2025 nominations closed on August 16 while Cocktail Party (A Lot) and Ellicazam (Capitalist) signed off with a double last week.
Cocktail Party (Photo / Western Racepix) led all the way for an impressive first-up victory in the Morley Growers Market Hcp (1000m) at Belmont on Wednesday. It was her third victory in 10 starts for trainer Luke Fernie with part-owners Kim Doak, Maria Manfredini and Peter Fleay.
“She goes well fresh and is speedy out of the gates,” stable foreman Brian Carey said. “The 1000m suits her. She did it easily in front and just cruised for Pat (Carbery).”
Cocktail Party (4m A Lot – Hallowell Lane by Lonhro) was a cheap $6,000 buy for Fernie at the 2022 Perth Magic Millions Winter Yearling Sale. WBA sold her as agent for Victorian-based breeder Rob Dunnett (Equine Ventures). He had purchased Hallowell Lane for $3,250 at the 2020 Mungrup Stud Dispersal.
Her sire A Lot (USA) stands at Westbury Park with Phil Ibbotson who is a WBA partner with Darling View Thoroughbreds and Einoncliff Park.
Ellicazam was a $210,000 graduate out of the WBA consignment to the 2022 Perth Magic Millions and she was a very impressive debut winner of the TABtouch Maiden (1000m) at Northam in Thursday.
Carrying the in-form Ridgeport Farm colours, she let down for Laqdar Ramoly to defeat a wall of horses in the Avon Valley. There’s more wins ahead for the Neville Parnham-trained mare and that will only increase her residual value for Ridgeport owner Santo Guagliardo.
Ellicazam (4m Capitalist – Ellibuba by So You Think) was bred by Darling View’s Clive Atwell and is from an unraced daughter of Ellicorsam (Fimiston) who won the 2004 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) at Ascot before go east to claim the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes in Adelaide.
“It’s an outstanding WA pedigree and she would have been accepted for the Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney,” Darling View general manager Brent Atwell claimed. “She’s a very strong filly and was hard to fault during pre-sale inspections.”
Western Breeders Alliance once again topped turnover at the 2024 Perth Magic Millions Book 1 Sale with 26 lots averaging $102,692 off a 90% clearance rate.
The 2025 Swan Valley Sale yearlings will be divided into Book 1 (Thurs 20 February) and Book 2 (Fri 21 February) and the catalogue will be released in mid-December. Keeping the numbers in line with recent years – 352 lots (2024) 327 lots (2023 ) 338 lots (2022) – will ensure Magic Millions employs a stringent selection process.
