Super Smink is right back to her superb self following an outstanding victory in the G3 Asian Beau Stakes (1400m) at Ascot on Saturday.

The Dan Morton-trained mare sat three-wide with cover before for Chris Parnham let her loose in the straight to defeat Luvnwar (War Decree) and Aztec Ruler (Universal Ruler).

Super Smink (4m Super One – Sminky Shorts by Snitzel) was voted WA Champion 2YO in 2022-23 after completing a hat-trick in the RL Magic Millions WA Classic (1200m), G2 Karrakatta Plate (1200m) and G3 WA Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m).

She returned as a spring 3yo to win the LR Belgravia Stakes (1200m), however, the winning run ended this time last year with subsequent placings in the LR Burgess Queen Stakes (1400m), G2 WA Guineas (1600m) and LR Starstruck Classic (1600m).

Her form tapered right off during a 3yo autumn prep but Morton never lost faith in the mare’s ability to recapture her mojo this season.  “It’s been a long time between drinks but she’s been going super behind the scenes,” he explained.

“Her first two runs in the Black Heart Bart and Eurythmic Stakes were excellent and I was confident today.  It wasn’t smooth sailing earlier this year but we stuck to our guns and here we are.

“I’ve always been keen for her at a mile in the Railway and that’s where we want to go.

“I told Chris to stay out of trouble today because we’ve still got the grand final.  He got a nice run and it was a comfortable win.”

Super Smink (Photo / Western Racepix) is the $6 pre-post favourite for the G1 Railway Stakes (1600m) on November 23 ahead of Zipaway ($11), Tom Kitten ($14) and Bustler ($15).  She also holds a Group 1 nomination for the Northerly Stakes (1800m) on December 7.

Forest View Farm bred and sold her for $45,000 at the 2022 Perth Magic Millions and she’s returned $900,000 to a syndicate managed by Morton’s wife Carol.  Forest View owners Ben and Jo Duncan also welcomed her Playing God half-sister in September.

Saturday’s win followed on from Forest View’s homebred mare Belta Of A Song (Your Song) who doubled up at Belmont last Wednesday.  She is related to G1 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) winner Preserve (Canny Lad) and her Group winning sire-son Safeguard (Exceed and Excel).

Super Smink is the chief earner for Super One (I Am Invincible) who is covering his first WA book this season at Roselee Park for $8,000.  For bookings or further information, contact Tracy Rodwell on 0400 011 691 or trodwell1@bigpond.com
