Born-again sprinter Phanta doubled his black-type account this season with a dominant victory in the LR Idyllic Prince Stakes (1300m) at Belmont on Saturday.

Phanta (8g Gingerbread Man – Dubi Dubi Do by Dubai Destination) broke a two-year drought in the LR Belmont Newmarket (1200m) at Pinjarra a fortnight ago and punters backed him from $3.40 into a $2.80 favourite score again at Listed level.

Brothers Chris and Michael Gangemi manage a stable syndicate that purchased Phanta as a tried horse for $80,000.  He changed hands after a sole Belmont win to his credit, albeit over subsequent G1 Northerly Stakes (1800m) winner Dom To Shoot (Shooting To Win).

That’s been repaid many times over with current earnings of $651,000 topped up with Westspeed Platinum Bonuses of $46,800.  “He’s wound back the clock and that was a really impressive win,” Chris Gangemi said.  “We bought him as a tried horse and he been really good for the owners.”

Phanta (Photo / Western Racepix) was bred by Scenic Lodge and is a full-brother to 2022 Blue Spec Stakes (1600m) winner Ginger Flyer.  He’s been a revelation for Yarradale Stud stallion Gingerbread Man rising to third on his list of leading Australian earners behind Red Can Man ($1,549,000) and Achernar Star ($1,006,000).

Gingerbread Man also sired a rare black-type trifecta in the Idyllic Prince Stakes with a two-length victory over his old adversary Fluro Neuro and Ginger Baker.

It highlighted another successful afternoon for his home-base that commenced with Yarradale-bred graduate Country God (Playing God) winning the Lawn Pride Australia Plate (1200m).  He’s the latest TBWA Winner Of The Week and rates highly with trainer Neville Parnham.

Former Yarradale resident War Chant (USA) also weighed in with his mare Triple The Chant completing a hat-trick on Saturday.  She’s a homebred for Balmoral Park owner Neil Irvine and her residual value continues to rise following a last-to-first victory in the Reg Treffone – WA Racing Hall Of Fame Inductee Hcp (1650m).  She’s a half-sister to this year’s LR Bunbury Stakes (1400m) winner Triple Missile (Smart Missile).

War Chant (Danzig) mare Eleventh Hour had won her maiden at Strathalbyn on Wednesday for Distinct Racing’s Geoff Evans.  She has residual value as well for the Serpentine owner-breeder as a close relation of G1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) winner Master O’Reilly (NZ).

Yarradale also had a hand in Galaxy Affair’s victory in the Essential Air Hcp (1400m) at Pinjarra on Wednesday.  The Pearce Racing galloper was conceived at Coolmore Stud when Merchant Navy (Fastnet Rock) covered Yarradale-bred mare Wild Ava (High Chaparral).

Gingerbread Man (Shamardal) and Shooting To Win (Northern Meteor) will both stand for a fee of $5,500 (inc GST) at Yarradale Stud this season.   For all enquiries contact Davy Hanratty (0429 336 904).
