Cool Memory and Brad Parnham made the most of an on-pace bias to rout their LR Farnley Stakes (1400m) rivals at Belmont on Saturday.
The Impressive Racing homebred was sent straight to the lead and won as he pleased in a result reminiscent of his all-the-way victory in last year’s LR Aquanita Stakes (2000m) at Belmont. The Farnley has been the launching pad for numerous top-class sprinter-milers and Impressive Racing’s Darren McAuliffe believes there’s better things in store for Cool Memory.
“Hopefully, he can measure up in stronger company. He has ability and we think the world of him,” McAuliffe declared. “But it’s a bit lofty having ambitions for a race like the Group 1 Railway Stakes at this stage. We will let the dust settle before making a plan going forward.
“Brad is the best front-running rider in WA and they dominated. There were a lot of things in his favour and he gets through the heavy ground very, very well. He’s had a couple of little bumps on the road with little issues but they are under control at the moment.”

Cool Memory (5g Impending – Fo’ Shizzle by Universal Ruler) started a short-priced favourite in the feature sprint and scored by more than three lengths from Kaptain Kaos (Demerit) and Rokanori (Awesome Rock). “The pattern helped and he rolled along setting a genuine tempo,” Parnham said. ‘I decided to really give them something to chase at the 600m and his kick was just too good.”
Cool Memory was bred by McAuliffe and his Impressive Racing partner Kevin Berry. He’s by former Darley Victoria sire Impending (Lonhro) and his dam Fo’ Shizzle (Universal Ruler) was runner-up in the LR Belmont Oaks (2000m) in 2015 won by Peters Investment filly Cosmic Storm (Street Sense).
Her first foal Cold Shizzle (Awesome Rock) won 7 races for prizemoney over $460,000 in the Impressive Racing colours and was Listed placed in a Hannans Hcp and Pinjarra Classic. Ascot winner Bleecker Street (Manhattan Rain) arrived second-up followed by Cool Memory and unraced 3yo Linchpin (Playing God).
Fo’ Shizzle subsequently changed hands and her latest foals are a 2yo filly by Manhattan Rain and yearling colt by Awesome Rock for Elvira Park owner David Moore.
The Farnley completed a winning double for Impressive Racing after Beats Of War also led from go-to-whoa for a five-length runaway in the Quayclean Hcp (2200m). It sent his earnings through $300,000 boosted by Westspeed Bonuses of $119,000.
Beats Of War is a hard-knocking son of former Yarradale Stud sire War Chant (Danzig) and his dam Massagi (Delago Deluxe) is a half-sister to McAuliffe’s giant-killer Gatting (Hard Spun) who won the G2 WATC Derby (2400) in 2017. He later entered racing folklore with a $101 boilover in the G1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington in 2019.
