Oakland Park and its Lonhro stallion Sessions have combined to win five races in nine days during the last week of September and first week of October.
Oakland Park owners Neville and Susan Duncan bred 6yo geldings Climb On Top (Demerit) and Exceltrain (Spirit Of Boom) to win at Belmont and Kalgoorlie respectively while Sessions weighed in with Saturday Sesh (Kalgoorlie), Quick as Silver (Toodyay) and Spirited Strike (Northam).
The Sessions treble improved his stud record to 115 individual winners of 345 races at an impressive 64% strike-rate.
Climb On Top (Photo / Western Racepix) was the catalyst for the successful run when he broke through for the first time this prep at Belmont on September 27. “He bounced out of the barriers to sit a lot closer in running than usual,” Pearce Racing reported. “Willie (Pike) had him in third position behind a hot tempo and he finished off well under the 60kg to win by just over a half-length from Kelora.”
Climb On Top has been a consistent campaigner for his connections with 6 wins and 4 placings earning $190,000 in 22 starts. He’s the fourth and final winner from Time To Climb (Bearcat) who claimed the RL Magic Millions 2YO Classic at Ascot in 2010. Her older half-brother Roman Time (Danetime) won the G2 Karrakatta Plate and G3 WA Sires’ Produce Stakes in 2007.
His stablemate Exceltrain has been another honest conveyance while improving his career stats to 7 wins and 9 placings for prizemoney of $248,000 in the Coastal Midwest Hcp (1400m) on Kal Cup Day.
“He was coming off an uncharacteristic poor performance at Belmont in August to take up the running,” Pearce Racing posted on Facebook. “He kept digging in deep over the final stages to win a deadlock decision from Close At Hand.”
Exceltrain is the first foal from Gold Coast winner Citrain (Manhattan Rain) and he’s a three-quarter brother to Ef Troop (LR BRC Phelan Ready Stakes). The mare was purchased by Oakland Park through Belmont Bloodstock agent Damon Gabbedy for $75,000 at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast National Sale.
Citrain moved on and her most recent foals are a yearling colt and weanling filly by Gingerbread Man for Wannanup breeders Garry and Sue Dawe.
Oakland Park stands Sessions (Lonhro) alongside Ingratiating (Frosted) and they are both priced at $9,900 (inc GST) this season. For bookings or further details contact Neville Duncan (0417 200 097) or Adrian Brown (0438 944 299).
