I’m Odette displayed a genuine will to win in the Greenfields Lodge at Magic Millions Maiden (1400m) at Bunbury on Wednesday and that will take her a long way this year.

The Grant and Alana Williams-trained filly came from last to finish withing three lengths of Rock The Market (Fastnet Rock) on debut at Ascot last month and went out a $2.60 favourite with Willie Pike aboard in the south-west.  Pike is an absolute advantage in the saddle and saved every inch of ground on our most recent Winner of the Week She’s Hot (Hellbent) at Pinjarra but he was caught in the cheap seats without cover from a wide gate on I’m Odette.

“She was held up last time and we didn’t have that problem today,” The Wiz said with a wry smile.  “That’s probably the way I’m riding these tracks at the moment.  I’m inclined to cover ground rather than making ground.”

I’m Odette joined a wall of horses at the furlong and kept finding to defeat Latorio (A Lot) and her stablemate Partay (Playing God).  “This is an educational prep and she will continue to strengthen,” Pike added.  “She will be much better next time in over more ground.”

I’m Odette is the latest up-and-coming prospect by Alwyn Park stallion Maschino and is the fourth and final winner from Magna Cat who won three races over a mile at Belmont.  She was covered by Maschino in every season during a short stud career which wasn’t surprising considering they were both raced by Jim and Trish Anderson.
