Oakland Park stallion Sessions has been on a roll since New Year’s Day and his wins tally (44) this season is second only to Playing God (60) after the victories of Urquharts Bluff (Ascot) on Wednesday and Slick (Pinjarra) on Thursday.
Urquharts Bluff (Pictured returning to scale with Kat Warwick / Western Racepix) is prepared by in-form trainer Paul Jordan for a syndicate managed by his wife Laura and he cost $155,000 at the 2023 Perth Magic Millions. Sessions isn’t one for large consignments and that’s his most expensive price for a yearling in the Swan Valley.
He has six colts and four fillies entered for the Magic Millions this year from Forest View Farm, Ridgeport Farm, Bellbridge Park, Westbury Park, Greenfields Lodge, Dawson Stud, Einoncliff Park, Geisel Park and Nuimara Farm (2).
“That’s a wonderful win,” Jordan said after the MCA Polytrack Hcp (1200m. “He cost a lot of money but he’s well-bred and can pay his way. He had to do it the hard way early in the race but top marks to Holly (Nottle) for getting a trail.”
Urquharts Bluff (4g Sessions – Xaar Boom by Xaar) was rated “a real professional” by Nottle after defeating Ripper Farooq (Vert De Grece) and Dark Avalanche (Gingerbread Man). He was bred and sold by Ben and Jo Duncan at Forest View Farm and is from the Coral Park Stud family of Bradson (G2 WA Guineas) and Dark Beau (G3 MVRC Stanley Wootton Stakes).
The best of Xaar Boom’s five winners from five foals to race to date has been Safeguard filly Buzzoom (LR Burgess Queen Stakes) and her final foal for Forest View is the unraced Pearce Racing-trained 2yo filly Boom Session (Sessions).
“What a tough win by Urquharts Bluff and it was great to see this cracking looking son of Sessions notch up another victory,” Forest View posted on Facebook.
“We have another lovely Sessions – Royal Strata filly (Lot 71) from the strong WA family of Clarecastle headed through the ring in a few weeks.”
Sessions (Lonhro) is popular with Oakland Park clients and they have bred the following winners so far this year: Urquharts Bluff (Ben & Jo Duncan), Slick (Alan & Sue Olive), Supernatural (John Blackburn & Peter Rogers), Outlaw Music (Mark Forrest) and Amaroo Star (Richard Farris).
Oakland Park has also subsequently sold the dams of last week’s Sessions homebred winners Silver Eye to Chris Streat and Queen of Hawks to John Paikos.
