Yarradale Stud and Amelia Park have celebrated black-type success together with Toropa this season and they’re hoping for more of the same with another filly sourced at the Gold Coast Magic Millions this week.

They have every reason to be confident after the stars aligned on Thursday.  Yarradale paid $200,000 for an Amelia Park-bred filly by Pinatubo (Lot 485) in the first hour of trade on Day 3 and that afternoon her older half-brother Hubble’s Dragon (Deep Field) bolted in at Pinjarra.

It was Yarradale’s first foray into the market at the majors this year but it won’t be the last with owner Lyn Sayers and stud manager Davy Hanratty locked in for the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale in April

Hanratty and his wife Susan first set eyes on the Pinatubo – Longduan (Written Tycoon) filly last month in the Hunter Valley where she was being prepared by Segenhoe Stud (as agent) for Amelia Park.

“We both fell in love with her straightaway,” Hanratty recalled.  “She’s a beautiful walking filly and presented perfectly in the sale-ring.

Hanratty confirmed Yarradale and Amelia Park owner Peter Walsh have a very good relationship.  “Peter is a Group 1 breeder and he kept a share in the Pinatubo filly.

“We’re also partners in Toropa who won her first five at Belmont and the (LR) Jungle Dawn at Ascot last month.”

Toropa (Toronado) was bred and sold by Amelia Park for $230,000 at the 2022 Perth Magic Millions and has earned $354,000 to date.  There’s also immense residual value for Walsh and his partners Brian Bradley and John Cipriani along with syndicate members Lyn Sayers, Dave Harris, Bill Willcox, Jeff Mouritz, Mark Wilson and David Ryan.

Amelia Park topped WA vendors at $900,000 during Book 1 at the Gold Coast Sale and Yarradale was prominent among an overall spend of $3.1 million by WA buyers.  Williams Racing topped that list with $835,000 for four lots with a Street Boss – Wonderful World filly the most expensive at $250,000.
