If numbers count in racing, Mogumber Park has an edge going into the RL Magic Millions 2yo Classic (1200m) at Pinjarra this Saturday with 6 of the 18 final acceptors bred at the Bullsbrook property owned by Colin Brown and Fiona Lacey.

Mogumber Park also has the score on the board having swept the 2025 sales-related features with Do I Feel Lucky (Dirty Work) in the MM 2yo Classic (1200m) and Smooth Chino (Maschino) in the MM 3yo Trophy (1200m).

Maria Lucia (2f Rommel – Mindarie by Safeguard) leads the six-pack and she’s also opened the overall $2.90 favourite with the WA TAB.  Optimus Prime (Safeguard) heads the other Mogumber Park-bred youngsters at $15 while Sovereign Rock (Awesome Rock), Spirit Of Belle (Spirit of Boom), Star Martini (Hellbent) and Lucy Red (Safeguard) are at longer quotes.

“That’s an amazing strike-rate from our draft of 18 lots last year and they’re by a range of sires,” Colin explained.  “Maria Lucia is a half-sister to Do I Feel Lucky and we sold her to Wally Daly for $105,000.  She was very impressive beating Daryte (Portland Sky) first-up and will be all the better for that win on Saturday.”       Photo/ Western Racepix

Mogumber Park has an A Lot (USA) half-sister to Do I Feel Lucky and Maria Lucia catalogued as Lot 32 at the Magic Millions Sale.  She’s an obvious highlight surrounded by 14 colts and two fillies from the first crop of Mogumber’s star sprinter Marine One.

Marine One is built just like his sire Capitalist albeit a touch taller and he let down with a big finish for a career-high victory in the G2 Rubiton Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield.  He was raced by Kingstar Farm owner Matthew Sandblom and China Horse Club Chairman Teo Ah Khing and they stayed in the superb-looking chestnut after he was signed for stud duties in WA.

“To have their continued support is an enormous endorsement,” Brown acknowledged.  “Not only for Mogumber Park but the WA breeding industry as a whole.  His yearlings will attract buyers next week.  They’re strong but not heavy.  And they’re easy to work with which will appeal to trainers.

“The Marine One – Magical Charge colt (Lot 26) is a half-brother to The Voice Inside (Farnan) who cost Trevor Andrews $125,000 at the 2025 Magic Millions.  “He’s well put together with scope and you can tell he’s a Marine One.  He really stamps them.”

Mogumber farewells the final yearling from its blue-hen mare Clarecastle (Tribu) when her Marine One colt goes under the hammer as Lot 145.  “She’s left the best until last,” Brown declared.  “He looks just like Castle Road.”

Castle Road (Safeguard) is a speed machine winning to Listed level in the 2025 Perth Stakes (1100m) at Ascot and he’s readying for another campaign for trainer Paul Jordan after winning a Belmont barrier trial on February 2.

He’s one 9 winners from 10 to race from Clarecastle and they also include the black-type performers More Special, Royal Strata and Specialism.  The only non-winner is Lucy Red and she is first emergency for this Saturday’s Magic Millions 2yo Classic.

Brown also rates a couple of colts by Marine One (pictured) on Day 2 that were arguably unlucky to miss the cut after inspections earlier this season.  “The Magic Millions team liked the Kistos colt (Lot 197) as a foal but he was going through a juvenile stage when they called in September.

“The Marine One – Poverty Point colt (Lot 252) has blossomed since coming in for his yearling prep.  He’s an outstanding type and is from a half-sister to Elite Belle (G1 Railway Stakes) and Mississippi Delta (G2 Perth Cup).
