Playin’it Sweet has defeated Talkanco for the second time this season at black-type level in the LR WA Breeders’ Classic (1200m) at Bunbury.
The Adam Durrant-trained daughter of Playing God held off the 2025 Champion WA 2yo Filly to reprise the LR Burgess Queen Stakes (1400m) result at Ascot in November. Sunday’s victory improved her record to 6 wins in 11 starts for earnings of $630,000 including Westspeed Bonuses of $267,000.
Playin’it Sweet (Photo / Western Racepix) took up a forward position outside the leader Pure Silver (D’argento) and was strong through the line to deny Talkanco (I’m All The Talk) by a neck for Lucy Fiore who was back on board for the first time since the Burgess Queen. “She has thickened out and feels much stronger now,” Fiore noted. “She’s awesome, tough and versatile. If you work with her she’s goes good and, ridden negatively, she should get a mile.”
Playin’it Sweet is a homebred for Walkaway wheat farmers Rod and Tania Cosgrove and their daughters Jasmine and Georgia. “It’s a great result for the Cosgrove family who are great supporters of our stable,” assistant trainer Jason Miller said. “She’s rock-hard fit with a tremendous will to win and she kept sticking her head out today.”
She’s the third winner from three foals to race from pensioned mare Sweet Ora (Oratorio) following Fire The Guard (Safeguard) and Sweet Eyes (Bondi). The Playing God – Oratorio cross is a trendsetter in the west with 39 individual winners at an 83% strike-rate.
Sweet Ora was a regular city winner at Belmont (4) and Ascot (3) for Durrant Racing and her half-sister La Famelia (Strategic) was a LR Hareeba Stakes (1200m) winner at Mornington before foaling French Fern (Lope De Vega) to win a G2 Reisling Stakes (1200m) at Randwick.
