Holler Nuff kicked off another successful weekend for Peters Investments with a brilliant turn of foot to win the MC Polytrack Hcp (1200m) at Ascot on Saturday.
The lightly-raced homebred was a mile off the speed set by Ourgirlcanrun (Long Leaf) but the blistering early sectionals worked in his favour at the business end. “I was banking on them stopping up front and he was there when I needed him,” winning jockey Clint Johnston-Porter reported.
Holler Nuff (3g Justify – Sentimental Gift by Al Maher) won a Bunbury maiden in September and put the writing on the wall when resuming back there a fortnight ago. “His first-up run was super and he’s already looking for further than 1200m but they went fast today and that helped him put them away.”
Bob and Sandra Peters bred him from the ‘Sentimental’ family that’s delivered this season’s LR Boulder Cup – LR Kalgoorlie Cup winner Sentimental Hero (Al Maher) and promising last-start Belmont winner Sentimental Legend (Brutal).
The cerise and white silks have also been carried to black-type success by close relations Star Exhibit (G2 Perth Cup), Perfect Jewel (G2 WA Guineas) and Royal Star (LR Natasha Stakes).
Holler Nuff (Photo / Western Racepix) is the first foal from Sentimental Gift who won up to 2100m at Ascot and Belmont. She has an unraced 2yo colt named Recipient (Maurice), a yearling colt by Pierata and a weanling colt by Satono Aladdin (Jpn) that was conceived in New Zealand.
The Kiwi connection brought up a double for Peters Investments on Saturday when Lillian (NZ) claimed the Vale Buster O’Malley Hcp (2200m). She has come of age this year winning four of her last five starts at Ascot.
Lillian (4m War Decree – I’ve Got Rhythm by Mossman) had won her maiden on debut at Ashburton in December 2024 for owners Terri, Heather & Ruby Rae. They sold her to forthwith to Peters Investments and she flew out the following month to Australia.
Peters Investments and trainer Michael Grantham struck again with 3yo maiden winners Arrangement (Wootton Bassett) and Wheely (Trapeze Artist) at the Pinjarra Cup meeting on Sunday.
Arrangement is a homebred son of LR Ascot 1000 Guineas (1800m) winner Adornment (Medaglia d’oro) and Wheely cost $150,000 from Widden Stud at the 2024 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale. His NZ-bred dam Honey Rider (Pins) won a G3 Gold Trail Stakes (1200m) at Hastings.
Peters Investments culled its Trapeze Artist 3yo gelding Good Show for $37,500 at the Magic Millions March Digital Sale last week. He had been placed on debut at Geraldton last month and was purchased by Dylan Bairstow. “We were hoping he would make $10,000 to $15,000,” Byerley Bloodstock’s Liam Peters noted. “The price he achieved far exceeded our expectations and it’s great to see the tried horse market so strong at these online sales.”
