A day after announcing French-bred Group 1 winner Royal Patronage would be joining Champion Sire Playing God on its roster, Darling View Thoroughbreds-bred graduate Consignment won the Reliable Asset Maintenance Maiden (1200m) at Ascot.

Consignment (2c Playing God – Silver War by War Chant) had been runner-up on debut to Beatty at Ascot in November and was dropping back in grade from a first-up midfield finish behind the Gingerbread Man colt in the LR Perth Stakes (1100m) three weeks ago.

The Neville Parnham-trained youngster went out a $3 favourite on Wednesday and sat at the girth of Fast Break (Headwater) before fighting off late challenges from She’s A Splinter (Splintex) and Vinny Nay (I Am Invincible).

It was the first win of the season for Playing God’s 2yo division and Parnham was happy to see him break the ice despite being a long way from the finished product.  “He will make a nice horse but is still green and Steve (Parnham) went forward and let him roll after jumping clean from the gates.

“He will probably learn more coming from off the pace but he toughed it out today.  We thought about the Karrakatta and I wasn’t too upset when we didn’t quite make it.  We will make an assessment about the Sires but it might be a bridge too far at this stage.”

The G3 WA Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) is scheduled for Saturday week, May 2.

Consignment (Photo / Western Racepix) sold for $160,000 at the 2025 Perth Magic Millions and is the first foal from Silver War who is an unraced half-sister to Yarradale Stud’s millionaire mare Dainty Tess (War Chant).  She has a yearling filly by Darling View sire Splintex that cost Trevor Andrews $150,000 at this year’s Magic Millions and her latest is another Playing God colt on the ground at Mundijong.

Former Yarradale sire War Chant (USA) was also in the frame on Wednesday as the damsire of Quayclean Maiden (1000m) winner Solar Chant.  The Ryan Hill-trained filly was appearing first-up since September and she waved good-bye to the chasers on the corner to cruise home untouched by Joey Azzopardi.

Solar Chant (3f Earthlight – Chantski by War Chant) was a $200,000 buy for Hill and part-owners Martin Epis and Simon York from Yarradale’s draft to the 2024 Perth Magic Millions.  She’s the final foal from G3 Gimcrack Stakes (1100m) winner Chantski and there’s another winner not far away from the family.

Her first foal Lado Ciego (Written Tycoon) retired unraced and her Parnham-trained colt Official Business (Gingerbread Man) has been nominated for the Peters Investments Plate (1100m) at Ascot on Anzac Day.

War Chant (Danzig) mare Aurora Queen increased her residual value for a Durrant Racing syndicate with a last-to-first burst at Pinjarra last Wednesday.  She was bred and sold by Gervase Park for $80,000 at the 2023 Perth Magic Millions and her dam All That I Am (Choisir) is an older half-sister to G2 WA Guineas (1600m) winner War Saint (War Chant).
