Lord Shiva was successful off a seven-day turnaround after in-form trainer Mitch Pateman rolled the dice for the Black Heart Bart – Hall Of Fame Hcp (1200m) on Saturday.
The Oakland Park-bred son of Playing God led from barrier-to-box in a Belmont graduation on August 15 and he ran the beaten division ragged when raised to a BenchMark 72 plus sprint over 1200m.
“He pulled up well after last Saturday and when noms were extended for this weekend I had no problems sending him around again,” Pateman said. “He had a really good week and made a mess of them today.
“He was a mad runner when we first got him and he’s still not the easiest of horses to handle but Holly (Nottle) rides him every day and settles him in front on race day. We will keep raising the bar and see where he ends up.”
Pateman did mention the $1 million Golden Saddle (1200m) on Kalgoorlie Cup Day. The second edition of the rich slot-race will be run on October 3 and Pateman said Lord Shiva is still available for any slot-holders interested in a horse that will be hard to catch in Kal.
Lord Shiva (Photo / Western Racepix) had won a Bunbury maiden in 10 starts prior to changing hands for $17,000 at the 2024 Inglis December Online Sale. Since then he’s won at Belmont (3) and Ascot (2) in 12 starts banking $200,000 for syndicate managed by Pateman’s uncle Greg Hunter.
Playing God sired him from Shakhimere (Oratorio) who is a full-sister to Lords Ransom (G2 Perth Cup) and a half-sister to Palace Intruder (LR Aquanita Stakes). Oakland Park had purchased the mare carrying Lord Shiva for $17,000 at the 2020 Mungrup Stud Dispersal.
Pateman has taken an early lead on the WA Metro trainers’ ladder with 5 wins from Summer Dickson (3) and Dan Morton (3). Lord Shiva was the second-leg of Pateman – Nottle double at Belmont following Kings Honour (King’s Troop) who won the Westspeed Platinum Hcp (1000m) for part-owner and breeder Matt Lukatelich.
King’s Troop (Redoute’s Choice) also sired Kings Call to win the Newman Sprint (1200m) on Saturday after his Pearl Coast star Kings Sicario completed the Kimberley Cup – Broome Cup double earlier this month.
