Mogumber Park-bred graduate Raw Umber had excuses when unplaced on debut at Belmont last month so Willie Pike took luck out of the equation when he cruised home in the State Wide Turf Services Hcp (1200m) at Pinjarra on Wednesday.

Pike sent him straight to the front and that’s the last they saw of the very promising Simon Miller-trained 3yo.  He defeated stablemate Unanswered (Cool Aza Beel) by three panels and it would have been more but for being eased down.

“Raw Power at its finest!” the stable posted on Facebook.  “There has been so much to like behind the scenes with Raw Umber and he’s definitely heading in the right direction.  The big-striding 3yo led from barrier to box for a dominant win at his second start and a big shout out to owner Jason Beer who zeroed in on this bloke as a yearling.  Well done, mate.”

His first start at Belmont a fortnight earlier was something of a learning curve in the race won by longshot filly Eye Of The Sun (Sebring Sun).  Stewards noted he:  ‘Laid inwards in the straight before shifting inwards to continue into clear running passing the 200m’.

Mogumber Park’s Colin Brown and Fiona Lacey bought his dam Rapture Miss (Smart Missile) from Swettenham Stud and sent her to Dirty Work for the 2022 season.  “She was empty at the time and we have a breeding right in Dirty Work at Widden Victoria,” Brown said.

“Raw Umber was born on the 1st of October 2023 and we sold him to Jason Beer for $45,000 at the 2025 Perth Magic Millions.  He seems to have a bit of a future and Simon was full of praise about him after that win.

“Jason loved him from the first meeting.  We chatted and mentioned that it would be worth giving him time to mature and not expect an early 2yo.  He was on the same page and that patience looks like being rewarded.

“We lost Rapture Miss last month.  She had a PPT to Safeguard and sadly only had the one foal.”

The Mogumber Park connection with Dirty Work (Written Tycoon) commenced with his first-crop colt Do I Feel Lucky.  Bred and sold by the Bullsbrook stud, he was an all-the-way winner of the $250,000 RL Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) at Pinjarra in 2025.

Mogumber Park will be supporting Dirty Work again this year and its draft to the 2027 Perth Magic Millions Yearling Sale in February includes a Dirty Work filly out of Foxy Baroness (Foxwedge).  Mogumber Park stands Marine One for a $5,500 (inc GST) service fee this season and Safeguard (Exceed And Excel) is priced at $4,000 (inc GST).  For bookings or further information contact Colin Brown at 0408 251 880 or colin@mogumberpark.com
