John Andrew has once again hoisted the book-full sign for Maschino at Alwyn Park. The Group winning son of Encosta de Lago covered 94 mares last year and there’s a waiting list this season despite a fee increase to $13,750 (inc GST).
Maschino’s stud career has been well documented with an early book numbering no more than 9 mares! That rags to riches rise was reflected during Book 1 of the Perth Magic Millions Yearling Sale in February when he averaged $100,625 off a 100% clearance rate Maschino has built a black-type to winners strike-rate of 19% headed by his current Eastern States raiders Jokers Grin, Machine Gun Gracie and Smooth Chino.
Alwyn Park
These two colts by Minsk Moment (left) and Maschino get acquainted at Alwyn Park last week. They were both bred by Ross Price and the Minsk Moment is the first foal from unraced mare Celtic Sister (War Chant). His second-dam Never Easy (Elvstroem) is a half-sister to Colour Correct (G2 C B Cox Stakes) and Royal Devotion (LR Jungle Mist Classic).
The Maschino colt is out of Little Schnitty (Snitzel) who foaled a Maschino colt first-up last year. Their dam was a Victorian winner for Lindsey Smith and second-dam Linky Dink (Keeper) was a Group 1 winner of the 2009 T J Smith Classic (1600m) at Eagle Farm.

Scenic Lodge
Pearlesque (Statoblest) has been a wonderful producer for Scenic Lodge and her latest foal is this Maschino filly born on September 17.
Bred by Mark Jones, Pearlesque completed a running double at Ascot in December 2010 and she foaled LR Natasha Stakes (2200m) winner Friar Fox (Blackfriars) second-up at stud. Further winners by Scenic Lodge sires Blackfriars, Universal Ruler and Snippetson followed prior to a Nicconi colt arriving last year.
Kelstar Park
This Sessions filly from Antonina (Blackfriars) was bred by John Paikos who bought her dam out of a Mogumber Park Reduction Sale in May 2024. At the time Antonina was carrying her first foal by first-season sire Marine One. Now a 2yo colt, he was bred by Paikos in partnership with Anthony Morrone.
Kelstar Park owner Kelly Davis also welcomed a filly by resident sire Hi World (High Chaparral) from Belgrano Belle (Rogano) on September 1. She’s the first foal from the mare who was an Ascot and Belmont winner for trainer Takahide Ikenushi.
Gold Front Thoroughbreds
Shooting To Win mare Winning Pia foaled a colt by Gingerbread Man for Wally Daly twelve months ago and she went back to him and delivered a filly at Gold Front Thoroughbreds on September 8. Daly has supported Gingerbread Man season after season at Yarradale Stud breeding winners the calibre of Beatty who doubled up in the G3 WA Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) and Perth Stakes (1100m) earlier this year.
