Perfume Princess launched a last-to-first sprint that race-caller Darren McAullay described as a ‘barnstorming’ finish to the Schweppes Hcp (1400m) at Belmont yesterday.
The Amelia Park-bred graduate was giving the leader Rising Flame (Super One) some ten lengths at the half-mile and was still last bar one at the furlong before Chris Parnham let her loose down the outer reaches of the straight.

“She’s a ripper,” trainer Simon Miller said as the $19 outsider returned to scale. “She hasn’t had much luck and I’ve scratched her a few times after drawing wide. She has a terrific turn of foot and I came her thinking she was a good bet.”
Nevertheless, Miller did admit Perfume Princess was in the hot seat after the stable won two races earlier in the day with Jemconi (Nicconi) and Anaballistic (Capitalist). “I gave her a kiss and cuddle and said, ‘Sorry, Darl. The pressure is on for the treble’.”
Perfume Princess (3f King’s Legacy – Amelia’s Contraire by Hinchinbrook) will now be set for the G3 Champion Fillies Stakes (1600m) at Ascot on November 14. Amelia Park last won that race with Samovare (Savabeel) in 2016.
“We were caught wide and the field was strung right out,” Parnham reported. “For her to pick them up like that was a really good effort. She let rip and there’s plenty of upside.”
Amelia Park sold her for $46,000 at the 2025 Perth Magic Millions. Her dam Amelia’s Contraire (Hinchinbrook) won four races up to 1400m in Perth for Miller and Amelia Park owner Peter Walsh who bought her for $200,000 from Lime Country Thoroughbreds at the 2018 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
Amelia’s Contraire’s first foal Deepest Desire (Deep Field) was last seen winning at Bunbury and Belmont in July for Pearce Racing and Amelia Park. Her most recent foal is a 2yo filly by Justify
