Quick Cookie has thousands of kilometres on the odometer floating to the races so the trip to the Avon Valley was a snip for the Gingerbread Man mare on Thursday.

Keysbrook trainer Ryan Hill took her to Northam for the Cup Packages Hcp (1300m) and the Yarradale Stud-bred graduate was as fresh as a daisy leading all the way for apprentice Sharni Webster.

“She’s a beautiful mare and is versatile with a big stride that makes my job simple,” Webster said.  “She jumped in front before bowling along and then did enough to hold a couple that were coming late.”

One of the closers She’s A Splinter (Splintex) was ridden by Chris Parnham and Sharni wasn’t going to let her cousin get the better of ‘Serena’ as the mare is known at home.  She was also happy for Hill who had to pay a fine after forgetting to bring the stable’s blue and white striped colours to the races.

Quick Cookie (5m Gingerbread Man – Fleeting Image by Elusive Quality) is raced by Hill in partnership with Mick Wilson and she has raced far and wide to Port Hedland in the Pilbara, Kalgoorlie in the Goldfields and Albany in the Great Southern.

She’s the final foal from Fleeting Image who was pensioned in November 2023.  Premium Bloodstock’s Grant Burns had bought her for $9,000 on behalf of Yarradale from Peters Investments at the 2014 Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale.

A Pinjarra maiden over 2000m was a career-high for Fleeting Image but her pedigree continued to improve with black-type additions after she changed hands in Sydney.  It also ensures Quick Cookie has significant residual value when she retires to stud.

Fleeting Image is an older half-sister to Perfect Reflection (More Than Ready) who won a G1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) in 2015 and Ideal Image (More Than Ready) who won a G3 La Trice Classic (1800m) in 2016.

Yarradale stands Gingerbread Man (Shamardal) alongside Shooting To Win (Northern Meteor) and they’re both priced at $5,500 (inc GST) this season.   For all enquiries contact Davy Hanratty on 0429 336 904.
