Macanese Master notched the third win for WA-bred gallopers in Hong Kong this month with a well-timed victory in the Tsim Mei Fung Hcp (1200m) at Sha Tin on Wednesday.

“This horse is very consistent,” trainer Me Tsui said. “I was just worried about the draw but he travelled well and when Nichola asked for another effort at the 200m, he came again.”
Bred by Scenic Lodge principal Jeremy Smith, Macanese Master follows the Gold Front Thoroughbreds-bred Sha Tin winner Speedy Power (Farnan) on October 25. The Robbie Gardiner-bred Safe Satyr (Safeguard) had also saluted at Sha Tin on October 19.
Scenic Lodge sold Macanese Master to Adelaide trainers Richard & Chantelle Jolly for $130,000 at the 2021 Perth Magic Millions and he shipped off-shore after finishing second to Solar Blast (Palentino) at Gawler. The latest Hong Kong victory increased his earnings to the equivalent of AUD 448,270 for the Merry Gang Syndicate.
He paraded as a good-sized, quality individual in the Swan Valley and would have presented with a much better page but for his dam True Storm (Hurricane Sky) losing earlier winner Black Lightning (Blackfriars) while the filly was still in training.
True Storm’s Goldfields-based gelding Call Me Frosty (Snippetson) completed a Kalgoorlie hat-trick as a 3yo for Peter Fernie in June and her 2yo gelding Twist And Flip (Acrobat) is with owner-trainer Misty Bazeley in Serpentine.
True Storm foaled an Aysar filly last month and her bottom-line goes back to third-dam Coral Blossom (Beau Sovereign) who foaled Bradson (Serheed) to multiple Group 2 wins in the WA Guineas (1600m), Lee Steere Stakes (1400m) and Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) for trainer Len Morton.
Scenic Lodge resident Universal Ruler was also in the frame as a broodmare sire at Belmont earlier on Wednesday with Bannered (Starspangledbanner) a front-running, first-up winner of the Liquor Barons Hcp (1200m).
Bannered is a homebred for trainer Darren McAuliffe who prepared his dam Furious Dame (Universal Ruler) to wins at Ascot and Belmont. He also guided Universal Ruler to four black-type victories to Group 3 level in the 2009 Belmont Sprint (1400m).
