Greenfields Lodge kept its strike-rate ticking over when Demerit mare Jazz Affair scored a well-timed victory under Mark Zahra in the Drummond Golf Hcp (1600m) at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

The interstate result followed a successful start to the season by Greenfields Lodge-bred graduates Diamond Dancer (Long Leaf) and Sensessional (Sessions) who doubled up closer to home in August.

Tony Patrizi bred Jazz Affair (pictured) at his Capel nursery and sold her to Adelaide trainers Richard and Chantelle Jolly for $28,000 at the 2021 Perth Magic Millions.

“That was a tough win and it was a strong ride by Mark,” Richard Jolly said after she edged out Japanese-bred mare Yachiyo (Epiphaneia).

“The owners have been patient after a run of tricky barrier draws but everything fell into place today.”

Jazz Affair was a late bloomer claiming a Strathalbyn maiden as a spring 4yo and Saturday’s win was the mare’s 5th in 21 starts improving her bank-balance to $224,000.

“We had a nice run and then came off the bridle around the bend,” Zahra reported.  “Yachiyo kicked clear and she showed good fight late to get the job done.

“She handled Moonee Valley no worries from the good draw and Richard only sends horses over that have got a winning chance.”

Jazz Affair is from the final crop of former Taunton Vale sire Demerit (Lonhro) and she’s an older half-sister Jaz Session (Sessions) who completed a hat-trick for trainer to Justine Erkelens at Ascot in April.

They’re daughters of War Chant (USA) winner Jaz Me Up as are their younger half-sisters Snip The Strap (Snippetson) and Jazz Me Baby (Gingerbread Man).  Patrizi bought into the family when purchasing second-dam Mount Difficulty (Tale of the Cat) from Queensland in 2011.
