Geisel Park had a hand in the first three winners at Pinjarra on New Year’s Eve and then upped the ante when Madhi Girl provided more black-type success for resident sire Winning Rupert at Ascot on New Year’s Day.

Former Geisel Park sire Vert De Grece (Ire) struck straightaway on Wednesday with Poblano a go-to-whoa maiden winner second time out at Pinjarra.  The 4yo grey mare is making up for lost time and won as she liked under Willie Pike following a debut second at Ascot a fortnight ago.

Poblano (4m Vert De Grece – Touched by Scandal Keeper) is a homebred for Alan Bansemer (Namerik Thoroughbreds) who has been breeding from the family going back four generations to Bavarde Royale.  The Sovereign Slipper mare delivered 7 winners from 7 to race topped by Aphasia (Orojoya) who won a LR Wyong Cup and was Group 1 placed in the 1996 Queensland Oaks (2400m) won by Arctic Scent.

Cosmic Treat (3f Universal Ruler – Cosmic Jeuney by Starcraft) also employed front-running tactics to make it a running double in the Hygain Maiden (1406m) at Pinjarra.  Geisel Park has catalogued a Playing God half-sister to the Impressive Racing filly as Lot 156 at the Perth Magic Millions Yearling Sale on Thursday, February 19.

Cosmic Jeuney’s final foal is a colt on the ground from the second-crop of Geisel Park sire Aysar (Deep Field).  The mare’s younger half-brother Beauty Joy (Sebring) has banked the equivalent of AUD7 million to date for clients of trainer Tony Cruz in Hong Kong.

Elegant Indi (4m Toronado – Indi Pacific by Blackfriars) completed the Pinjarra hat-trick first-up on Wednesday thanks to a textbook ride by Pike.  She saved ground on the rails around the corner then burst through a gap half-way down the straight to best Beau’s A Lad (Sessions) by a short-head.

Geisel Park owner Eddie Rigg bred and sold Elegant Indi to Greenfields Lodge owner Tony Patrizi for $200,000 through Maluka Thoroughbreds (as agent) at 2023 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale.

Her dam Indi Pacific is a half-sister Lady Knockout (Serheed), a LR Matron Stakes (1600m) winner at Flemington who is the second-dam of Geisel Park’s black-type filly Laced Up Heels.  The LR Burgess Queen Stakes (1400m) winner is also a daughter of Swettenham Stud sire Toronado (Ire).

Madhi Girl became the sixth individual stakes winner by Geisel Park stallion Winning Rupert when she scored a long-head victory over Jaz Session (Sessions) in the LR Summer Scorcher (1000m) on Thursday.

The Ascot feature improved her record to 6 wins in 15 starts for over $500,000 in prizemoney including $129,000 in Westspeed bonuses for owner Teleah Hulse.

Madhi Girl (4m Winning Rupert – Very Angry Gal by Gingerbread Man) is trained by Simon Miller and was a $68,000 buy at the 2023 Perth Magic Millions.  Her dam Very Angry Gal was an Ascot 2yo winner for Miller in 2016 and she is a half-sister to LR Bolton Sprint (1200m) winner Profit Street (Viscount).

After completing a hat-trick at Belmont in August, Miller put her away with the Summer Scorcher a first-up target.  “The plan was give her two trials into this race and now she’s on a path to the (LR) Miss Andretti Stakes (1100m) and (LR) Scenic Blast Stakes (1200m).

“Madhi Girl ran a cracking race in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) when we sat her back and the plan has been to get her over 1200m again third-up in the Scenic Blast Stakes.”

Winning jockey Willie Pike also believes she can see out 1200m.  “She’s a little girl but all heart and can run it out if I can hold her up.  She sprung the gates today and was closer than I thought would be ideal.  That meant we arrived a bit sooner than I wanted but that was alright because we lasted on the line.”
