Perth sprinter Super Smink was out wide and out the back before producing a dazzling last-to-first surge in the G3 R N Irwin Stakes (1100m) in Adelaide on Saturday.

The Dan Morton-trained mare (pictured) was winning first-up in Adelaide and will now be set for the G1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville on April 25.  It was her seventh stakes victory in a career that has garnered over $1.6million since the 2023 edition of the G2 Karrakatta Plate (1200m).

Super Smink (5m Super One – Sminky Shorts by Snitzel) was bred and sold by Forest View Farm’s Ben and Jo Duncan for $45,000 at the 2022 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale.  “She’s a star and we will push on to the Sangster and Goodwood,” assistant trainer Shelby Colgate said.  “She came over in really good order and we’re very happy with her.”

Last seen running fifth to Rey Magnerio (Magnus) in the G3 Gold Rush (1400m) four months ago, the WA visitor was travelling interstate for the second time following Group 1 losses at Caulfield twelve months ago.

She set the bar high as a juvenile making a clean-sweep of the RL Magic Millions Classic (1200m), G2 Karrakatta Plate (1200m) and G3 WA Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m).  Resuming as a spring 3yo, she won the LR Belgravia Stakes (1200m) before her form tapered off during an autumn prep but Morton never lost faith.

That was confirmed in the 2024 G3 Asian Beau Stakes (1400m) when she let loose for an outstanding victory.  And she looked as good as ever winning the G2 Lee Steere Stakes (1400m) in November.

Her sire Super One (I Am Invincible) stands at Roselee Park Stud in Serpentine and she’s from the multi-talented family of Group 1 Railway Stakes winner Covertly (Metal Storm).  Her dam Sminky Shorts (Snitzel) has a yearling filly by Playing God at Forest View and the Duncans sent the mare across to the Hunter Valley for a $110,000 advertised cover by Anamoe (Street Boss) at Darley Stud in September.

Forest View doubled up on Saturday with Western Lady in the Solo Hcp (2400m) at Ascot.  Starting a long odds-on favourite under Lucy Fiore, the beautifully-bred nmare waltzed home by three lengths from Audio Boy (Sessions) and Cheyne Bay (Playing God). Bred and initially raced by Peters Investments, Western Lady was sold at the 2025 Inglis September (Late) Online Sale and, apart from rising residual value, she has earned $160,000 since changing hands for $37,500.
