Australia’s Weanling Sale Series swings to the Magic Millions on May 24 when former Serpentine-based breeder Alan Bansemer offers filly foals by Rommel and Ducimus on the Gold Coast.

Bansemer operated under the Namerik Thoroughbreds banner in WA before relocating to Sydney’s northern outskirts at Berowra.

He has the Rommel – Comme Ca (Authorized) filly catalogued as Lot 265 and she is a half-sister to Bravo Centurion (National Defence) whose 50% winning strike-rate includes victories in the G3 Prince Of Wales Stakes (1000m) and LR Crawford Stakes (1000m).

The short-course specialist had been a $40,000 Namerik-bred graduate from the 2022 Perth Magic Millions and he has earned over $300,000 for a partnership managed by Ascot trainer Luke Fernie.

The Ducimus – Femelle (Charge Forward) filly is catalogued as Lot 308 and she is a half-sister to the city winners Hobelar (King’s Troop) and El Patron (Patronize).

The two-day Inglis Weanling Sale in Sydney this week saw 9 foals targeted by WA buyers topped by the $260,000 Maurice (Jpn) colt purchased from Noorilim Park by Byerley Bloodstock’s Liam Peters as agent for Peters Investments.

The colt (Lot 349) is a full-brother to Classic Gem who is rated the best maiden galloper in Australia on the back of a close second in the MRC Alexandra Stakes (Gr 3, 1600m) at Caulfield in March and fourths in the 2025 Group 1 Queensland and Victorian Oaks.

Trainer Dom Sutton has nominated Classic Gem for the Qld Derby (2400m) and Qld Oaks (2200m) at the Brisbane winter carnival.

“Her brother didn’t put a foot wrong prepping for the Sale,” Noorilim Park’s Glen Carrick reported.  “He’s well put together with plenty of substance and he’s a lovely mover with strong forearms and hindquarters.”

Inglis auctioneer Chris Russell with WA trio Simon Miller, his partner Ellie Crispe and Inglis Insurance Manager Sinead Flannery

Ascot trainer Simon Miller was also active at Riverside Stables paying $160,000 for the Stay Inside – Gasolier colt (Lot 273) and $80,000 for the Zousain – Queen of Shadows filly (Lot 478).

Westbury Park’s Phil Ibbotson is another regular on the Foal Sale circuit pinhooking an $80,000 Ozzmosis – Kalkarni Royale filly (Lot 326) after spending $50,000 on the Tassort – Academy Award colt (Lot 141).
