Ascot trainer Josh Brown took a shine to the first crop of Splintex at the 2025 Perth Magic Millions Yearling Sale and it began paying off on Wednesday when She’s A Splinter was an impressive winner of the Sound Telegraph Maiden (1200m) at Pinjarra.

She’s A Splinter (2f Splintex – Toni May by Tavistock) had put the writing on the wall when just failing to catch Consignment (Playing God) first-up at Ascot last month and Willie Pike had her ready to respond off a quick tempo set by Is This Thing On (Microphone).

The Darling View Thoroughbreds bred filly (Photo / Western Racepix) is from a half-sister to the dams of Jericho Missile (RL Magic Millions 2YO Classic) and Resortman (G3 Eurythmic Stakes) and races for a James Somerville managed syndicate that includes Brown’s partner Chelsi Forder and Ryan Fuller.

Brown’s other Magic Millions graduate by Splintex is named Chixfromthestix and she also signalled ability winning an Ascot 850m barrier trial on Monday.  Bred by Gervase Park, she is a half-sister to last week’s Kembla Grange 3yo winner Whoa Nellie (Deep Field).

Belmont’s opening race of the season on Saturday is also the launching pad for Splintex first starters Lenny Good Child and Iza Bay who are both coming off trial wins at Lark Hill.

Lenny Good Child (2g Splintex – Lennon’s Song by New Approach) is a Forest View Farm homebred and owns a pedigree that indicates he will improve on whatever he does on debut.  His dam won up to 1900m at York, second-dam Imaginaire (Fusaichi Pegasus) won a LR WA St Leger (2400m) and third-dam Beaux Art (Nomrood) a G1 WATC Australian Derby (2400m).

Iza Bay (2f Splintex – Iza Lya by Blackfriars) races for managing part-owner Phil Ibbotson who bred her at Westbury Park from a winning half-sister to Goon Serpent (G2 SAJC Queen of the South Stakes) and the dam of Solaia (LR Natasha Stakes).

Splintex (Snitzel) currently sits third on the WA 2YO Sires’ table and his first-crop includes the Stakes performers They’reallsisters and Yamanex.  He stands at Darling View Thoroughbreds alongside Playing God (Blackfriars), Lightsaber (Zoustar) and Group 1 winning newcomer Royal Patronage (Wootton Bassett).
