Mogumber Park achieved its best ever sale result when Mindarie (Safeguard) topped the Inglis Digital July (Early) Online Sale at $355,000 on Wednesday.

Representing one of Western Australia’s most successful families, Mindarie (pictured) attracted interest from right around Australia.  The 8yo grey mare is a daughter of renowned matron Clarecastle (Tribu) and her first two foals are both black-type winners.

Do I Feel Lucky (Dirty Work) and Maria Lucia (Rommel) are Mogumber Park-bred graduates and they’ve combined to claim the last two editions of the RL Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m).  The mare’s most recent deliveries are colts by A Lot and Awesome Rock before she was given a year off this season by Bullsbrook-based Mogumber Park owners Colin Brown and Fiona Lacey.

“It’s the highest-priced horse we’ve ever sold but it’s not just the amount,” Lacey said.  “She’s by our stallion Safeguard, she was born on our property, we raced her, her foals were born here and her dam Clarecastle was virtually a blue-hen in Western Australia,  She is WA through and through.”

An Ascot 2yo winner in her own right, Mindarie was targeted by local breeder Robert Bavcevic who ensured she stayed in the west following a spirited bidding duel.

“We cannot speak highly enough of the support that Inglis and Sinead Flannery gave us throughout the process,” Brown added.  “Sinead advised us on a value and when to put her on the market (early) and let’s just say she was bang on both times.

“Sinead held our hand the whole way through and made us feel relaxed.  It’s hard to let Mindarie go as it’s an end of an era for us with the family, however, it was the right decision financially.”

Buyer Robert Bavcevic said he will consider his options with Mindarie before committing to a stallion for the upcoming breeding season.  “I really wanted her.” he admitted.  “Her credentials are very strong,  Two 2yo Stakes winners from her first two foals and her dam produced 9 winners from 10 foals including a Stakes winner and three other black-type performers.

“She’s the fourth mare for my broodmare band and I think that might do me for the moment.”

Bavcevic along with fellow part-owners Ray Meadowcroft and Peter Jones purchased Horcrux (Rommel) for $105,0000 from Mogumber Park at the 2023 Perth Magic Millions.  Trained and part-owned by Simon Miller, he reached $318,000 in career earnings following a short campaign in April – May.

Bavcevic was also active in the Inglis online market this time last year buying G3 WA Oaks winner Own The Queen (Awesome Rock) for $150,000.  She was purchased off the track before missing to St Mark’s Basilica (Fr) first-up at Coolmore Stud in October.
