The first reported foal of the season in Western Australia was born at Mogumber Park on Saturday when its well-bred mare Meyer delivered a colt by resident stallion Safeguard.
“His birthday really is August 1 and he’s a ripper,” Mogumber Park posted on Facebook.
Safeguard (Exceed And Excel) is a multiple Champion WA 2YO Sire and the colt’s early arrival will give him a head start as will his dam Meyer (Written Tycoon) who won four provincial sprints in NSW for trainer Kris Lees.
Meyer was purchased by Mogumber Park from Victorian-based Morningside Park in 2023 and she also has a new-season 2yo filly by Doubtland and a new-season yearling colt by Rommel.
The new-season 10yo chestnut mare has a pedigree going back to Melbourne 2yo black-type winners Adagietto (VRC Waltzing Lily Quality) and Captiva (MVRC Silver Jubilee Stakes).
