Progressive mare In Confidence is back in business after being sidelined for twelve-months and she looks a black-type sprinter-miler in the making for Amelia Park and trainer Dan Morton.
In Confidence (4m King’s Legacy – Sophia’s Secret by Written Tycoon) completed a running double at Belmont in the Congratulations William Pike Hcp (1400m) on Saturday winning by a couple of lengths from Classic Impact (Universal Ruler) and Bird’s The Word (Galah).
Starting a short-priced favourite, she responded to a confident ride that impressed Pike who was aboard for the first time. “It was a nice pick-up ride and she earned it chasing the leaders. She was out to 1400m for the first time and had to tough it out but was better than them today.”
In Confidence (Photo / Western Racepix) was bred by Amelia Park owner Peter Walsh and he kept a share after she was knocked down for $50,000 at the 2024 Perth Magic Millions.
She raced three times during a late-season 2yo campaign for wins at Pinjarra and Bunbury before an injury-enforced spell laid waste to a 3yo campaign.
She is a first-crop daughter of Coolmore Stud’s Group 1 sprinter-miler King’s Legacy (Redoute’s Choice) and is also the first winner for Sophia’s Secret who was prepared by Morton for a running double at Belmont and Ascot in October 2017 prior to filling a black-type placing in the LR Burgess Queen Stakes (1400m) won by Mikimoto (Sebring).
The mare was bred by Jingle Holdings principals Frank and Margaret Fry and was a $210,000 broodmare purchase for Amelia Park. She hails from the family of Group 1 winners Sky Cuddle (Snippets) and Prowess (Proisir).
Pearce Racing also weighed in with the Amelia Park-bred winner Deepest Desire (Deep Field) in July. He continued a perfect prep when taking out the Prince of Wales Hotel Hcp (1000m) at Bunbury and won’t be long paying back a $130,000 price-tag at the 2024 Perth Magic Millions.
