As the first foals of the season reach their Foal Ownership Declaration deadline, Thoroughbred Breeders Australia has reminded breeders the FOD must be lodged within 30 days of foaling with the Australian Stud Book.
Responsibility remains with the managing breeder-owner. Importantly, don’t assume someone else has done it. Late declarations attract a fee and, if lodged more than 60 days late, may result in the foal being embargoed from racing permanently.

Alwyn Park
The first foal at Alwyn Park this season hit the ground a week ago and she’s the very first foal by Minsk Moment from his first cover last September.
The filly is a little ripper out of Tousled (More Than Ready) who is the dam of RL Magic Millions 3YO Trophy (1200m) winner Bondi Bubbles (Bondi).
Fair Go Fishing
Geraldton’s Cox Family operates popular Skeetas Seafood Restaurant and they bred this Rommel filly from Romaconi under the Fair Go Fishing banner.
Romaconi (Nicconi) was a Morphettville winner at her fifth and final start for Lindsay Park. She has an unraced 3yo filly named Magnaconi (Magnus) with local trainer Graham Cox.
Gervase Park
Chris and Andrea Gales bred this Playing God filly from Lady Vega (Lope De Vega) who is a direct descendant of Irish-bred Group 1 winning mare and producer Park Express (Ahonoora).
Lady Vega’s first foal Yorga Pride (Pride Of Dubai) won at Belmont (3) and Ascot and was black-type placed in the LR Jungle Dawn Classic (1600m) last year.
Balmoral Park
Record-breaking Saratoga Group 1 sprinter Cogburn (USA) had his first southern-season cut short last year at Widden Stud but not before Battle Of Luxury returned a PPT off a September cover.
Battle Of Luxury (Declaration Of War) is an unraced half-sister to G1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) winner Mighty Boss (Not A Single Doubt) and she foaled down on August 12.
“She’s not an overly big broodmare but certainly put everything into this colt,” Brian Collison, Stud Manager of Rapid Equine Breeding at Balmoral Park, said this week. “He weighed in at 59kg and we couldn’t be happier. He has a great topline and has the bone to match.”
Cogburn is a son of Giant’s Causeway (USA) sire Not This Time (USA) and ticked all the boxes for Balmoral Park owner Neil Irvine and Collison on pedigree, physique, performance and price ($27,500). “We knew he had the speed element we were after and he had covered a decent book of mares in his first season at WinStar Farm in 2025. If he was to return to Australia, we wouldn’t hesitate sending him another mare.”
