Broodmares served by WA first-season sires Straight Charge and Royal Patronage (Fr) have returned PPT results from their early covers this month.
Westbury Park owner Phil Ibbotson stands Straight Charge (Written By) on behalf of Mungrup breeder Gray Williamson and his first seven mares tested are all positive. “He’s already served over 30 mares in the first three weeks and they’re owned by a wide cross-section of breeders,” Williamson reported on Thursday.
“We’re still taking bookings and it looks like he will end up covering upwards of 70 mares. There are quite a few maiden mares and among them are several by Playing God.”
That brings the broad but rare Written Tycoon – Blackfriars cross back into the spotlight and it’s one we haven’t seen in black-type since Kissonallforcheeks.
Bred by Graham Daws, she won the G3 Bob Peters Stakes (1500m) at Ascot before travelling east to claim the G3 Shaftesbury Avenue Stakes (1400m) and G2 Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m) at Flemington in 2022.
Grace Rose (Playing God) won a Pinjarra maiden for Neville Parnham and she is among those seven maiden mares with a PPT to Straight Charge. Her dam Cadenza (Oratorio) won the RL Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) for Dan Morton at Ascot in 2014.

Feels Like Spring (Dr Johnson) is another positive and she’s a proven producer as the dam of LR Challenge Stakes (1400m) winner Feels Playful (Playing God).
Williamson also owns French-bred Canndiyara who was the first mare that tested positive to Royal Patronage (Wootton Bassett) at Darling View Thoroughbreds. She is a recent acquisition from Oakland Park after slipping last year.
Canndiyara (Sinndar) foaled earlier winners The Candy Kid (Sessions) and Chillies (Too Darn Hot) and her yearling filly by Victor Ludorum (GB) has already been named Skittled.
Bred by HH The Aga Khan IV, Canndiyara is a half-sister to Candarliya (G2 Longchamp Prix de Royallieu), Canessar (LR Chantilly Prix la Moskowa) and Canndera (LR Saint Cloud Prix Scaramouche).
