Rangeview Stud has been on a productive run in the last week or two starting with Browning Street on the King’s Birthday long weekend and there’s a black-type feeling in the air ahead of feature meetings at Ascot and Caulfield this Saturday.
There’s also been optimistic news out of the Burekup nursery with valuable foals on the ground and mares returning early positive pregnancy tests.
Browning Street (3g Long Leaf – Snitz ‘N’ Giggles by Snitzel) won the Kettridges Maiden (1400m) at Bunbury last Monday week at his second start for trainer Sue Naylor and fellow part-owner James Fowler.
Naylor is also based in the south-west at Burekup and she had prepared Modern Girl (I’m All The Talk) to a recent running double at Bunbury and Belmont for Rangeview owners Rob and Jody Gray.
“Browning Street (Photo / Western Racepix) is a lovely horse and he will keep progressing,” winning jockey Tash Faithfull said after the breakthrough at Bunbury. “I told Sue she should step him straight up to 1400m because he was run off his feet first-up here in a shorter race.
“He jumped and travelled today and felt nice and relaxed. He kicked clear when we straightened and then pricked his ears and looked around at the crowd. He has ability and that got him over the line so there’s no reason why he can’t go on with it this prep.”
Browning Street is the third Rangeview-bred winner from Snitz ‘N’ Giggles following LR Sheila Gwynne Classic (1400m) winner Rissoles (Playing God) and Tidwell (Playing God) who doubled up at Belmont in June – July for trainer Steve Wolfe and a syndicate managed by Peter Kerr.
Her Playing God yearling colt was purchased by Wolfe for $75,000 from the Rangeview draft at this year’s Perth Magic Millions Sale and she delivered a Maschino filly foal in August.
Snitz ‘N’ Giggles (Snitzel) is a half-sister to LR MVRC Carlyon Stakes (1000m) winner Acromantula (Written Tycoon) and second-dam For Your Eyes Only (Bletchley Park) was a Listed winner of the Gimcrack Stakes, Ascot 1000 Guineas and Beaufine Stakes.
Ourgirlcanrun (4m Long Leaf – Sister Zoe by My Admiration) and her younger full-brother Big Red Zoom are from another successful family bred and reared at Rangeview for owner Peter Gurney.
Mitch Pateman prepared Ourgirlcanrun to a running double at Ascot and Belmont in April – May and she is shaping up for another successful campaign after defeating Group 1 winner Western Empire (Iffraaj) in an 1100m barrier trial at Lark Hill on Monday.
Big Red Zoom won a Bunbury maiden at his only start to date in August and Pateman has thrown him at the deep end first-up for a tilt at the LR Max Simmonds Stakes (1000m) at Ascot on Saturday.
Saturday also heralds the return of star sprinter Jigsaw who has opened a $2.40 favourite for the G2 Schillaci Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield. His unbeaten seven-race winning streak last season was highlighted by a G1 Sistema Railway (1200m) in New Zealand and $3 million Quokka (1200m) at Ascot.
Jigsaw is a son of Rangeview Stud sire Manhattan Rain and trainer Cindy Alderson claimed he’s going better than last year after galloping at Caulfield on Tuesday morning. “He’s fitter than at the same stage this time last year and he’s ready to go.
“He’s exactly where I want him to be,” Alderson added after the workout. “He’s bright, happy and when he got here, he knew what it was all about and it was game on. His action looked typically fluent. He’s always had a nice action but it looked great today.”
Manhattan Rain (Encosta de Lago) stands for a $6,600 (inc GST) at Rangeview Stud and Rob Gray can be contacted for further details on 0409 243 461.
