Trainer Justin Warwick won a G2 Perth Cup with Black Tycoon (Blackfriars) in 2014 and with Material Man (Vital Equine) in 2018 so it’s not a stretch to suggest he can make it a treble as an owner in 2027.
Warwick manages a partnership that races this year’s G2 Perth Cup runner-up Filthy Habits (I’m All The Talk) and some of those same owners are in his younger half-brother Dirty Habits (A Lot) who looked a promising stayer winning at Pinjarra on Wednesday albeit in restricted company at the provincials.
Filthy Habits is trained by Warwick’s son-in-law Brandon Fiore and Dirty Habits is a member of Mitch Pateman’s team at Ascot. He was racing past a mile for the first time at his fourth outing in the Electrical Consultancy Maiden (1700m) and was a comprehensive winner under Willie Pike.
“He’s still raw but is getting better and better with each start,” Pateman said. “Willie put him in a lovely spot off an even speed and we will be happy if he ends up half as good as Filthy Habits.”
That would appear a given and Pike was positive about the future when guiding Dirty Habits for the first time. “The extra distance helped but he has a tendency to lay in. He’s from a staying family and will continue to improve next season.”
It was Pike’s his 200th win in 2025-26 and he changed whip hands twice in the straight keeping Dirty Habits on an even course to score like an odds-on favourite from Thangoo (Maschino) and Sylva Jack Ghaiyyath).
Mungrup owner Gray Williamson sourced his record-breaking sire A Lot (Tapit) from the USA and he also bought into the bottom half of the family when purchasing second-dam Just as Beautiful (Beautiful Crown) for $15,000 at the 2010 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.
That proved a profitable investment when Just as Beautiful’s 2yo colt Salade (Snitzel) came out and won the following year’s G2 Pago Pago Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill for Bart Cummings.
Dirty Vegas (Lucky Owners) was the first foal Williamson bred from Just as Beautiful and, apart from Filthy Habits and Dirty Habits, she has a rising 2yo filly by A Lot that was purchased by Brandon Fiore for $65,000 at this year’s Perth Magic Millions Yearling Sale.
Williamson also reports Dirty Vegas has a strong, good boned, good looking filly foal by Darling View sire Lightsaber (Zoustar) and she’s due to Maschino in October.
A Lot stands for a $7,700 (inc GST) service fee Westbury Park. He has been based at Phil Ibbotson’s West Pinjarra stud since 2023 and his first Westbury-conceived foals will be two year-olds this Saturday.
