Lynward Park bred-graduate Niccimota revelled in the conditions at Belmont to make it two wins in two starts on a Heavy 8 in the Robert Burns Snr Hcp (1000m) on Saturday.
Niccimota (5m Nicconi – Outboard Motors by Sebring) was posted three-wide outside Last Stylebender (Harry Angel) and Mai Aloha (Long Leaf) but had them covered with a dominant finish in the straight. The Jim Taylor trainee was racing first-up and confirmed some sparkling trial form to score by two lengths from Eternal Wine (Playing God).
“It’s been frustrating after the promise she showed early on,” Taylor said. “She can start living up to that and hopefully we’re racing on more heavy tracks ahead.”

The Nicconi mare was a $120,000 buy for Taylor from the Lynward Park draft to the 2023 Perth Magic Millions. She is managed by Jim’s wife Tina and, like her recent winning stablemate Penny Pincher (Long Leaf), sports the same Group 1 silks of part-owner Pat Castledine.
They were also carried to victory by the Fred Castledine-trained stayer Meliador (Just Great) in the 1979 Perth Cup (3200m). “Fred was a strong supporter of mine when I was riding,” Taylor recalled. “And it’s great to see those colours still winning.”
Her sire Nicconi (Bianconi) stands in Victoria and he’s been represented by five WA black-type winners led by Peters Investments homebred Graceful Girl who won the G1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) in 2021.
Niccimota is the first foal from Outboard Motors (Sebring) who travelled west five years ago after being purchased by Lynward Park principal Ted van Heemst for $60,000 at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.
She owns an international Group 1 pedigree through her dam Earthlight (Machiavellian) who is a half-sister to Dolphin Street (Prix de la Foret), Insight (Canadian E P Taylor Stakes) and Saffron Walden (Irish 2000 Guineas).
Outboard Motors is also the dam of Lynward Park homebred Axopar who was a 2yo Pinjarra winner for trainer Dan Morton last season. He will saddle her up again in Race 5 at Pinjarra on Wednesday.
