The Divitini brothers and Steph Bakranich unveiled another talented member of a black-type family that has served them so well when Reginetta won first-up at Northam on Sunday.
The 4yo daughter of Playing God had won a Belmont barrier trial last month and she performed like a professional in the AFGRI Equipment Maiden (1000m). Stand-in jockey Shaun O’Donnell settled on the fence and then took a split before running away to score with ears-pricked from Chandra (A Lot) and Hold My Wine (Safeguard).
“She’s taken time and it was a bit nerve-racking but that’s a special win,” Bakranich said. “She’s immature and still growing but has ability and isn’t far away from peaking.”
O’Donnell replaced injured rider Jason Whiting and was taken with the win. “Firstly, thanks to ‘Fish’ for doing all the hard work. She towed me into a good spot and, once extricated, let down and it was all over. It was an amazing win and she can go right on with it from here.”
Reginetta carries the same black, blue and white striped colours as close relations Doyoudare (LR Tattersall’s Cup), Nerodio (LR Beaufine Stakes x 2) and Playing Marika (LR Grandstand Cup). Her dam Black Carat had won an Albury 3yo maiden for Lindsay Park before transferring west to be trained by Justin Warwick to win at Ascot for Livio and Renato Divitini.
