Cape Falls Thoroughbreds owner-breeder Brett Fogarty notched a second black-type victory this month when his top-class mare Hot And High won the LR Crawford Stakes (1200m) at Ascot on Saturday.
Racing first-up since June, Hot And High settled right behind the speed set by Cessation (Sessions) but appeared to hit a flat spot coming off the river side before responding in the straight to win like the real deal for Chris Parnham.
Hot And High (4m Too Darn Hot – High Conviction by Snitzel) won the LR Sir Ernest Lee-Steere Classic (1400m) and LR Belmont Guineas (1600m) last season for Fogarty and trainer Dion Luciani and her career card now reads 7 wins from 8 starts for earnings of $457,000 boosted by Westspeed Bonuses of $107,000.

“I thought we were in trouble at one stage,” Luciani acknowledged in a post-race interview with Racing WA TV. “She wasn’t travelling and Chris was niggling her to get on the bridle and into a rhythm.
“Fortunately, she rallied under pressure and went through the gears to get in her comfort zone. She kept finding in the final furlong and really ticked the box on that score.”
Luciani indicated she will head to the G3 Asian Beau Stakes (1400m) on October 31 to earn a rating good enough to help qualify for the G1 Railway Stakes (1600m) on November 21.
Ladbrokes has Hot And High on the third-line of Railway markets after she firmed from $15 into $11 on Saturday night. Cape Falls homebred Hobawest (Epaulette), a last-start LR Hannans Hcp (1400m) winner in Kalgoorlie, is priced at $26 for Perth’s Big Mile.
Hot And High is by Darley shuttler Too Darn Hot (GB) from Fogarty’s Belmont hat-trick winning mare High Conviction. She has a 2yo Zousain filly named Sarre Jewel and a filly foal from the first-crop of Darley sire Traffic Warden (Street Boss).
Second-dam Paris Petard (Mujahid) won a G3 WA Sires’ Produce Stakes, LR Gimcrack Stakes and LR Belgravia Stakes for Oakland Park prior to Fogarty buying her for $100,000 at the 2011 Perth Magic Millions Autumn Sale.
