Gingerbread Man was represented by the winners of six races in the first half of May and it could have mounted to a lot more this month but for the Bunbury meeting being abandoned on Sunday.

The Yarradale Stud resident had six acceptances primed for Bunbury prior to the south-west being buffeted by extreme weather conditions.

Gingerbread Man’s Hong Kong expat Perfectday completed his first half-dozen at Sha Tin on May 17 before Herault (Belmont) and stablemate Uxorious (Pinjarra) along with Koondakaara (Selangor) added another three from May 20 to May 23.

Herault (3g Gingerbread Man – Valtellina by Blackfriars) completed a running double in the KBRC Hcp (1400m) at Belmont for trainer Jason Miller and his wife Sarah in partnership with Namerik breeder Alan Bansemer.

“He’s an exciting work-in-progress and it was another top steer by Willie (Pike),” the Miller said.  “He jumped cleanly and travelled beautifully on the speed before letting down impressively to score a strong victory under 60kg.”

Bansemer bred and sold Herault for $50,000 at the 2024 Perth Magic Millions Yearling Sale.  He’s the first and most recent foal from Valtellina.  The dam is a half-sister to Alsephina (Street Cry) who won a G3 La Trice Classic (1800m) at Ascot prior to a successful visit to Melbourne for the G2 Stocks Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley.

The Gingerbread Man – Blackfriars cross has a 72% strike-rate led by Mr Mt Walker who won 9 races including two at Belmont for trainer Steve Wolfe.

Uxorious (3g Gingerbread Man – War Blossom by War Chant) won the Electrical Consultancy Maiden (1300m) second time out at Pinjarra.  “He came straight across to find the rail and dictated before skipping away at the top of the straight,” Miller posted.  “He put the race away early under a positive ride by Brayden Gaerth.”

Uxorious (Photo / Western Racepix) is a homebred for Warren Cowcher and there are eight individual black-type winners spread around Australian under third-dam Cherry Garden (Sir Tristram) including Grand Jardin (Redoute’s Choice) who was an on-pace winner of the LR R S Crawford Stakes (1100m) in 2010 for trainer Bruce Watkins.

Yarradale-bred graduate Last Stylebender also weighed in with wins at over 1000m Ascot and Belmont in May and he’s on a hat-trick for trainer Mitch Pateman and the Cowcher family over the minimum trip at Belmont on Wednesday, June 3.

Last Stylebender is a son of Darley shuttler Harry Angel (Ire) and is the first foal from Saturia (War Chant) who was a Belmont winner for trainer Paul Jordan.  Yarradale kept a share after he sold for $100,000 at the 2022 Perth Magic Millions.

Saturia also won 1000m at Belmont and Pinjarra and her page goes back to three Group 1 winners would could get over a mile and more: Rocket Racer (Perth Cup), Starzaan (AJC Oaks) and Lotteria (AJC Flight Stakes).
