Mitch Pateman trained bookend winners The Persian God (Tagaloa) and Lord Shiva (Playing God) at Belmont on Saturday and for good measure added a third with Bosun (Gingerbread Man) in Heat 1 of the Westspeed Platinum Spring Series (1300m).

Bosun is as good as qualified for the $100,000 Westspeed Platinum Spring Final (1600m) that highlights closing day at Belmont on September 26.  And Pateman has form navigating a path through the prelims having prepared Diamonds’n’rubies (Maschino) to win the Westspeed Platinum Winter Final (1400m) in June.

Bosun was ten lengths off the pace approaching the turn and was still spotting the leader God’s Gate (Playing God) a margin into the straight before motoring home from the furlong to the relief of favourite punters.

“I was extremely confident today,” Pateman admitted.  “He has flashed that ability to finish off his races before and he’s been flying at home.  My brother Josh owns him and he’s been doing a great job managing him through some issues.

“Josh is also my stable foreman.  We have a close bond and hopefully he slings his big brother if Boson wins the $100,000 Final.”

Winning jockey Pat Carberry rides all his trackwork and would have preferred to be closer in running than in the back-half of the field.  “He can be hard work at home but he settled and relaxed when they went quick in front.  He had a good blow after the race but couldn’t be any fitter without having a run under his belt.”

Bosun went out a $3.40 public-elect following a last-start Northam maiden victory in June and he will have a pipe-opener over 1400m before the Westspeed Platinum Spring Final (1600m) in six weeks.

Gingerbread Man (Shamardal) stands alongside Shooting To Win (Northern Meteor) at Yarradale and they are both priced at $5,500 (inc GST) service fees this season.   For all enquiries contact Davy Hanratty on 0429 336 904.
