Sessions sired TBWA Winner Of The Week All The Stars on Wednesday and he doubled up at Belmont on Saturday with Fantaxtic in the Westspeed Platinum Hcp (1200m).
Fantaxtic settled in the box seat behind front-runner Gold Flakes (Playing God) and was doing his best work at the finish to defeat the favourite So Si God (Playing God) by three-quarters of a length.
The Mitch Pateman-trained 5yo sprinter (Photo / Western Racepix) had saluted second time out in a Bunbury 3yo maiden and added two more at Albany and Bunbury last season while in the care of Great Southern trainer Paul Hunter.
“He had disappointed in his first two starts back with me and Uncle Paul said to swim him and add blinkers,” Pateman said. “That turned him around and Holly (Nottle) put him into a good spot today.”
It kept Pateman at the top of the WA Trainers table with 7 metro wins this season and Nottle agreed riding for him fills her with confidence. “Mitch is going really well and Fantaxtic jumped and felt good apart struggling a bit in running. He picked up the bit and took a while to wind up but felt amazing once he hit his top.”
Fantaxtic is the final foal from Traxa (Xaar) and is a half-brother to winners by Rogano (Paris Girl) and Safeguard (Silver Sax). He was bred by former Perth Racing Director Rod Lukatelich who also manages the winning syndicate that includes his son Matt.
Lukatelich has bred numerous winners from the family since buying third-dam Silver Goddess (Royal Rocket) from Bob Watson who operated Roseneath Stud near Camden in NSW.
The best of them to date has been his homebred galloper Taxagano (Rogano) who was trained by Fred Kersley to win a G3 Northerly Stakes (1400m), LR Towton Cup (2200m) and LR Ascot Gold Cup (1800m) in 2019-20.
