Oakland Park’s outstanding run in recent weeks can go to another level next month with last-start Belmont winners Lord Shiva and Swift Ruler. Lord Shiva (Playing God) has opened an $8 third-favourite for the $1 million Golden Saddle (1200m) in Kalgoorlie on October 3 and Swift Ruler (Universal Ruler) will be on trial for a trip to the Eastern States on Saturday week at Belmont.

Oakland Park’s Susan Duncan also reports there’s exciting times ahead with the latest foals by resident sire Ingratiating (Frosted) who has covered over 200 mares in his first two books. “Ingratiating has kicked off the foaling season where he left off last year, producing exceptional types. This smart looking filly from Irish-bred mare Rebel Assault is well put together with an impressive hip and shoulder and a great attitude.”
Rebel Assault (Excelebration) is the dam of Siren Assault (Rich Enuff) who won the G3 WATC Gimcrack Stakes (1100m) in 2024 and her State Of Rest colt was sold for $200,000 to Hong Kong owners at the Perth Magic Millions Yearling Sale in February.
Gold Front Thoroughbreds
Legacy of Tara (Awesome Rock) foaled a filly off a maiden cover to Aysar last year and she has doubled up with a colt this season. Aysar (Deep Field) was initially based at Geisel Park before transferring to Ridgeport Farm earlier this year.
Legacy of Tara won three of her first four starts as a spring 3yo at Ascot, Northam and Pinjarra. She is from the Widden Stud family of Aussie expat Sydney’s Dream (Bletchingly) who won a G1 Allan Robertson Fillies Futurity (1200m) at Scottsville in South Africa. She was repatriated to Australian to foal Group 1 racehorse and sire Charge Forward (Red Ransom).
Scenic Lodge
Champion sire Universal Ruler (Scenic) is back in rarified air this season with current earnings of $535k that’s only bettered by Playing God ($832k). He claimed the WA Freshman title (2013-14) and WA 2YO title (2017-18), however, limited numbers have hindered further honours.
Universal Ruler still owns a 60% plus career strike-rate and this colt from Formula (Blackfriars) is bred to win for owner-breeder Stan Quinlivan. Formula was a three-time winning miler for Adam Durrant and she’s also a half-sister to Quinlivan’s multiple Group 1 winner Modem (WATC Fruit ‘N’ Veg Stakes & Railway Stakes).
Ruby Racing & Breeding
Champion Queensland-based stallion Spirit Of Boom sired this filly from his final crop at Eureka Stud last year. She’s the first foal from Thesecondatportsea (Churchill) who was a winning sprinter-miler at Doomben and Eagle Farm.
Thesecondatportsea is an older half-sister to Perth black-type filly Earthstorm (Calyx) who was also bred by Ruby’s Bridie O’Bree. Earthstorm topped the Magic Millions July (Early) Digital Sale when changing hands for $155,000 and she will train on this season for new owners Kyle and Brody Sutherland.
